sethrakSo, apropos of recent political wrangling.... what exactly does being in the bottom fifty percent of income earners mean, for us USAians? My google-fu is only pulling up what the percentage of federal income tax various segments of the income earning population make, ie this link: http://washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/2011/04/if-rich-arent-paying-their-fair-share-then-whats-fair
They break it down into top 1%, 1-5%, 5-10%, 10-25%, 25-50%, and then bottom 50%. They do not give hard numbers, as in the top one percent make X-hundred-thousand a year, etc.
My gut reaction is "Fuck you, conservatives, I was making around 800 bucks a month after federal, state, and social security taxes once upon a time, and living with my parents and five younger siblings in a squalid little apartment; no car, no cell phone, and no health insurance of my own". But anecdotal evidence isn't data, nor is it indicative of the full range of people who don't pay federal income tax.
