sethrak: Ivanova: GOD SENT ME (Ivanova)

Article from Althouse regarding Republican gov. candidate being called a whore by someone in her opponent's camp.

Linked-to article on Fox News. I haven't heard the tape, but it appears that the person calling Ms. Whitman a whore was not Mr. Brown, but an unknown voice interjecting into the conversation.

Second comment at Althouse: "Well, on Brown's campaign, I'm just waitin' to see the feminist outrage!" Embedded link to http://americanpowerblog.blogspot.com/2010/10/where-are-outraged-feminists-jerry.html

I immediately went over to feministing.com. Very first page contained this: http://feministing.com/2010/10/08/jerry-brown-aide-caught-on-tape-calling-meg-whitman-a-whore/

It plainly decries the use of the term whore for Ms. Whitman, and for any woman in politics. I doubt the outraged conservatives who are convinced feminists only act on behalf of people who share their politics would appreciate the article as a whole; it takes on what the author sees as the overall societal disease of denigrating women in order to 'put them in their place', rather than excoriating the person who made the comment.

But it was an immediate and prompt response to the incident.

Feministe and Pandagon are not on my daily reading list, and don't seem to have updated much over the last couple days. Most of the feminist blogs I do read regularly haven't gotten around to it yet.

But of course, even if they all posted to condemn women being called whores in public, that wouldn't satisfy the kind of conservative who thinks we only stand up on behalf of liberal women. Sigh.
