It's going to reach a high of 94 today. I'm trying to plot a list of places to go this afternoon that have

a) air conditioning, or failing that, lots and lots of shade
b) opportunities to take the boys to the bathroom without having to go all the way back home
c) places to get snacks and beverages (I'll bring some from home, but extras are always useful)
d) minimal opportunities for meltdowns

D's pretty high-priority, esp. after the way Mark acted when we went to the mall as a family yesterday, to beat the heat.

We're probably going to start with the base library, so they'll be on their best behavior. Then I'm thinking Target, because Mark loves doing laps through the toy and towel aisles, and we can get more juice and use their restroom there. Then... I don't know. If it weren't going to be so Verra-bedamned hot today, we'd try a park. But it IS going to be extremely hot, and Mark is utterly unpersuadable about the merits of staying in a nice shady spot and having a cool drink in between bouts of playing. He'll romp and scamper until he's worn out and mildly dehydrated. Today is not a good day for that. Dav thinks I'm under-estimating their toughness. I'm basing my worry on my own predisposition to heat exhaustion and sunburn, and the much higher elevation here.

At least now Mark has a wall-mounted fan in his bedroom, with the wires secured and the outlet covered so he can't unplug it. One for Jack's room is on its way. I think the living room is next on the list.

Maybe we'll stop in Culver's and get the boys some lemon ice before we go home. Late afternoon should be relatively uncrowded, and lemon ice (assuming they even eat any) won't spoil their dinners.

One side effect of the lack of a/c is that I'm wearing skirts almost every day. Heh. My grandmother would stop dead and stare, considering all the years of being a total blue-stocking/hoyden I spent as a child.

Later this week, if it cools down a bit, we'll try out the local park system or just go driving around til we find a neighborhood that looks like a good spot for a long walk, and just explore. ^_^
