Just my sanity.

Jack, as I feared, did NOT like being gently lifted from his nice safe warm playpen - selfsame playpen that earlier was a gross violation of international accords regarding the humane treatment of Jack-jacks, tucked into a warm suit, and strapped into his carrier. He freaked out until midway through the shopping trip, and glared resentfully at me the second half. When he wasn't bitching about his kawaii raccoon hat getting stuck over his eyes again.

But it had to be done. We were perilously low on diapers, and getting there on wipes. I was out of bread and low on milk. And it's chilly enough the next few days I'd rather hunker down if I can.

(Not as bad as [livejournal.com profile] thoth_of_nd has it, thank God. But chilly enough for my taste. If I were living in North Dakota or anywhere near there, I'd have established a vast stockpile of non-perishables months ago, and made arrangements with a local grocery store for deliveries of perishables. If I had grown up there, I'd have hitch-hiked my way to a warmer clime upon turning 18. or joined the Army, despite being a pacifist. Anything.

I found out Farm Fresh will let you make online orders and pick it up no sooner than three hours after ordering. I think I'm going to try that out. Amazon will still be cheaper for diapers, but once I get a couple checks cleared into my individual account, I'm on it. Also, I need to learn to plan ahead, so I can avoid mandatory trips outdoors when I don't really want to drag the kids even as far as the playground.)

Mark, by contrast, was well-behaved. In fact, he nodded off shortly after we got there. It was hilarious. For a while he was hunched forward in classic 'computer geek peering at a dimly lit monitor' posture, dead asleep, with his head perfectly poised forward, not slumped or tipped down. And drooling on his hands clutching the cart handles. Then he blinked at me, flopped backwards, and was nearly upside down the rest of the trip, mouth wide open, giving passersby a charming view of the inside of his nose and the slightly bitten lip he'd acquired last night. If this becomes a pattern for Mr. Naps Are For The Weak, I may start bringing the camera with me. [livejournal.com profile] davner needs to share this special time. ^_^

I should be using this rare slice of time wherein Jack-jack is snoring in his playpen. Doing dishes. Using my workout video. Etc. But I don't feel like it. I'm tired and missing my Dav like mad. Ms. Shannon's coming tomorrow morning, so I'm going to clean the living room as quietly as possible, but then I'm just shutting down the living room and sneaking upstairs until Jack wakes up. That will probably be right about when my bodyheat warms up the blanket-cocoon... ^_^;

I've been ordering my groceries online for years. Having your groceries shopped for and set on your table within a two hour time block for $7 is a pretty good deal, if you ask my opinion.

Of course, YMMV--Misti is amazed that I haven't given it up to get my groceries in the supermarket. :P

Oh, and it's warming up nicely, actually. We got above 0°F today, and early next week we'll get above freezing. :)
