Here are some more recent photos of Marcus, taken shortly after [livejournal.com profile] davner got home from Afghanistan.

More later. My family took a bunch of pictures in Milwaukee, and gave me hardcopies. I'll post them when I have time to scan them.

Edit: Found this one in the folder of digitals taken in December, before [livejournal.com profile] davner left. Too funny to hide behind a cut. :D

Amara's first encounter with Doofus, my in-laws' pet turtle. She really freaked out. "Mommy, why is this giant rock moving?!"

Just got a call from a colonel at the base hospital, concerning the results of Mark's allergies test.

He is strongly allergic to wheat and to cats and dogs. So, giving away Amara was totally the right thing to do. :wistful sigh: Makes taking him to Missouri this fall for deer season with Dav a mite tricky, but maybe baby Benadryl will help. Also, allergies change as a child ages, so we may need to test him again around his first birthday. The colonel recommended this, because he also has a mild allergy to cows' milk, and the first birthday is when doctors normally recommend switching from formula to real milk. We may end up having to buy him soy milk for a while, when the time comes for that. (We're already giving him soy formula. That was my m-i-l's idea, back when we weaned him off breast milk, and his eczema seemed worse. Thanks, Debbie! )

In addition to the mild allergy to cows' milk, he is also mildly allergic to beef and eggs. I never heard of a beef allergy... but as he's still on veggies and fruits and formula, that won't be an issue for a while. He's also too young for eggs even if he wasn't allergic, so that's also no problem.

The wheat allergy is trickier. As I found out when we thought my old stomach problems were perhaps celiac syndrome, it is very very hard to avoid wheat. Almost everything breadlike seems to have it. So, the colonel (whose surname I really can't remember... >_< ) put in a request for me to have a consult with a dietician. I'm to wait until Thursday to call, because it generally takes about two full duty days for these things to go through.

I'm really relieved to finally learn what his triggers are. ^_^ A deep final vacuuming of the house to remove cat hair, and learning what to avoid in his diet as he eats more solids, should get rid of the worst of his eczema.
