Zodling allergy update
Jan. 24th, 2008 04:32 pmDr. Morales just called. Mark's test results are in.
He is severely allergic to three foods: cow's milk, eggs, and peanuts. We are to avoid, repeat AVOID, all three. I specifically asked about wheat; she said there's a small reaction on the test, but it's low enough we can experiment with giving him stuff with wheat and see if it worsens his eczema or not.
He is severely allergic to three environmental triggers: Cats, dogs, and dust.
Great. I'm going to have to start vacuuming daily and try to keep the HVAC unit dust free too. Ah well. It's for our boy, so it's worth it.
She's going to send me the hardcopy of the test results in the mail, and some other things to read about his allergies and the epi-pen. She wants us to give him the liquid allergy medicine every day, because of the environmental triggers. She gave us six refills, so that'll last us a while.
Well, now we know. :resists urge to make GI Joe comment:: My poor boy. ::sigh:: At least we don't have to worry about wheat anymore; it's *hard* to find stuff that's wheat *and* milk *and* egg -free. The one-two punch of milk and eggs is bad enough.

Is he too young to start allergy attenuation shots?

Date: 2008-01-25 12:30 pm (UTC)I have no clue about the attenuation shots. I should ask next time we see Dr. Blodt. I really don't know much about childhood allergies. No one in my family had anything worse than the usual ragweed/generic pollen allergies, and those were adult-onset. I do know he's too young to get the skin-prick test until he's at least two years old. Which is about when he's due for the next set of allergy tests anyway.
Sigh. I was so happy when I was pregnant and read that babies who are breastfed are much less likely to have food allergies; babies who live in a home where there are pets are less likely to get pet allergies.
Well, I breastfed, and we had cats long before I even conceived, and this still happened. Grr.

Date: 2008-01-28 04:43 pm (UTC)Key word, alas, is eventually. In the meantime I gotta start making like Belldandy and all those uber-domestic anime heroines, or as much like one as I can manage without the universe making a paradigm shift without a clutch.
