Tootsie-roll owl: Let's find out.

Awoken thrice by the Zodling last night. [livejournal.com profile] davner alleges he only heard me get up once. Note to self, make husband get hearing tested next time he gets a physical.

Aforementioned Zodling did not take his morning nap until nearly ten am; and even then, it lasted less than half an hour. Very very cross Mommy.

With the aid of sweet sweet caffiene, managed to pull self together enough to go shopping for his impending birthday party. When he's older, has little friends to invite, and can be fobbed off on his daddy while mommy naps in the evening, there may be birthdays that approach the scale of Bilbo Baggins' 111th, within the contraints of our budget. This year? He may be turning one, but he lacks the capacity to care much about the celebration, or even notice he's got a birthday. So, generic streamers, balloons, and candles; a home-made cake; and a single 8-pack each of Backyardigans paper plates and hats. I did indulge in a tiny rubber duck wearing a blue crown with a number 1 on its tummy, and in a large blue candle that says "It's great to be one!', but they were the cheapest of the First Birthday themed items at the party store. I refrained from things like Backyardigans noisemakers, which the boys will gnaw on rather than play with, or the various 1st birthday style plates and hats, which cost way more than the ones I bought.

The little mazoku fell asleep ten minutes ago. I'm going to use the opportunity and the remains of my caffiene buzz to poing around the living room and get the nooks and crannies looking more presentable. Monika's bringing William over for the party this weekend. So, while I don't need to go to 'impending mother/m-i-l visit! ack!' levels of clean, the place does need a little work.

But first, I am going to ogle the photos Dav took of me and Mark and my mom when he was less than a week old, to remind myself why I don't stuff him in a box with airholes and ship him to Missouri. x_x

In the immortal words of Homer Simpson, "The sooner kids start talking, the sooner they start talking back."

Indeed. My hope is that, with the onset of speech, he'll finally figure out that sleeping for an eight hour stretch is a Good Thing.
