Damn fashion industry...
Oct. 29th, 2006 12:36 amFor the record, I have always, always, always hated underwires. They're far from comfortable, to say the least. The only reason I (grudgingly) buy garments with them is because it's damnably hard to find anything without them, much less anything remotely pretty. I've never understood the need for them either. Good solidly built cups and well-made straps and bands ought to be sufficiently supportive without including U-shaped segments of stiff wire that really only support the bottom edge and none of the more, er, protruding, bits.
But why in God's name anyone would think they're a good idea for a nursing bra.... considering how sore and tender a nursing woman's chest normally is.... >_<
"But you wouldn't get enough support without an underwire!" chirped the salesclerk at the maternity store I visited today.
"Yes, well, they cut into my chest, thank you very much. I want something I can sleep in without waking up with deep red indentations."
"Ooo, er...." she fluttered, clearly never having considered this angle, and eventually did produce something more reasonable.
Would a man put up with an athletic cup that included a structure that gouged into his junk, in the name of "support" or "fashion"?
Hell no he would not. And no one designing male garments would ever consider asking men to.
Rawr. Massive feminist rage....
