Ungoliant's heir has been slain

Hadn't seen the spider since I posted about it last; we were beginning to think it had died of old age or wandered off to better hunting grounds.

We opened the windows earlier today to try and clear some of the miasma produced by two cats and a leaking A/C unit (which got fixed by the apartment maintenance this morning, thank goodness). Dav, opening the dining room window, said "Oh, look, that spider from upstairs didn't leave, it just switched windows. Hand me the squirt bottle so I can kill it, hon."

I brought him the bottle, took a look, and said "Yeah, that's a decent-sized spider, but the one upstairs was a lot bigger." Dav looked at me funny, and said he was heading upstairs to see if he could chase it out of the window's crannies after he finished killing the one in the dining room.

A certain amount of bumping, thumping, and yelling at Callisto, who tried to 'help daddy', ensued.

Dav came back down, eyebrows raised, and said "Holy shit, Sethra-chan, that thing could have killed one of the cats; they're too stupid to know not to fuck with it."

Me: "Said it was big, didn't I?"

Dav: ::eyebrows raised farther:: "Yeah, no shit. I poured water down the hole it came out of to make sure it didn't have a mom in there."

I don't normally freak at spiders, but really, this one was huge. Dav thinks it was a brown recluse, which only makes things worse. o_o This being prime spider season, we bought some spray on our weekly shopping trip, and we're going to apply it to all four windows once or twice a week for a while.

And of course 'Eight-legged Freaks' was playing on HBO this afternoon.... ::shudder::

Ah, one of these guys, huh. I've got spiders like that all over the damn basement. Mine aren't venomous so I don't get squeamish when I see them since I have no qualms with killing the damn things. It's more of a pain when wasps crawl in through a crack of the foundation or something. Fuck I hate summer sometimes. :p
