Heh, I was *wondering* if NYC's government was on crack or if the city had a massive stadium hidden away somewhere that could be converted to Olympic grade that I was ignorant of. T'would appear it is the former: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/07/nyregion/07stadium.html?pagewanted=1&th&emc=th

You'll have to register as a NYTimes online member to read it, but the gist is, NYC was pinning its hopes of the 2012 Olympics on a three-person state board approving the sale of land for a new stadium, and said board gave them a flat "No!".

Frankly, I don't want to see more tourism. Did you know the hotels are filled to 100% during the summer? I guess they can live in the East River. The space is there, but that isn't the problem. Its the traffic and the parking, and its a mightmare getting to NJ already. Now put a 80K stadium over there. It will be the first 365 day-a-year parking lot.

Franky, if you ran to a bookie and wanted to bet on Paris, they wouldn't take a red cent.
