The boys are at Friday special ed class.

I'm listening to music, procrastinating getting laundry folded, and enjoying snacks.

Also trying to plot what to do with the boys this coming week, which in this school district is spring break.

Part of the problem is that taking the boys out and about, without Tom, means trying to tear my attention frantically in multiple directions at once, unless a shopping cart is involved. (And Jack's getting on the verge of too big for shopping carts. He's already too big for strollers.)

For example, Cottonwood Creek Park, which has an excellent playground, and where we frequently take the boys on weekends? Mark's preferred routine involves climbing up to the very top of equipment designed for much older children, going down the slides, and then back up, over and over and over again. With periodic breaks for the openings at the top of rock-climbing walls a good nine feet off the ground. ::sweatdrop:: Jack's preferred routine is to run a circuit around the various equipment installations, with brief stops at the swingsets. He also makes periodic breaks for any dogs frolicking at the park with their humans. He is OBSESSED with dogs, the larger, the better.

Two adults can take turns following one or the other boy around. One adult has a serious problem keeping track of both.

Tom's suggestion is to take the boys to some of the smaller playgrounds around base housing instead, so the boys don't get bored with the backyard.

This is a good idea, as the crowds on base playgrounds are smaller, even during vacations, and there's very little traffic to worry about. Still faintly problematic, but not a crisis.

I also intend to explore the library branches in parts of town we haven't seen before, hoping to find one with a children's section that's at least partially walled off from the main area, like the one back at Langley. Makes keeping track of the boys, and keeping their noise from disturbing other patrons, much much easier.

My sil suggested we try the zoo, as she did buy us a family pass for Christmas; but this poses much the same problem as a major park. Especially since the giraffe feeding station has a balcony sixteen feet off the ground.... ::sweatdrop::

Might try Bear Creek Nature Center. The trails aren't paved, but they're well-kept, and it's a pleasant walk, with a bathroom open during the week.

Got to devise more ideas, or we'll all go crazy this week. Also a good chance to do test runs for summer activities. The school year ends mid-May. ::shudder::
