Jack recently learned how to escape the playpen.

About... a week and a half ago... Mark was at school, and Jack was being the bounciest little Tigger boy who ever bounced. In particular, he was poinging around on the couch in a very not-approved-by-Mommy manner, and trying to pull shenanigans off the arm of the couch. Mark can manage that, as he's a lot taller and more adept at climbing than Jack. Jack? Not so much.

I got sick enough of rescuing the little Zodling that I stuck him in the playpen and put on a DVD. He was loudly indignant about this. Then I went into the kitchen to make myself lunch. He'd had his hours ago, but I hadn't been hungry at the time.

I heard repetitive thumping of the playpen against the wall while I nuked and ate, and rolled my eyes. Then, as I was finishing my Lean Pocket, I heard creaking and rustling.... and a tiny thud. Followed by a burst of very loud tears.

I rushed out to the living room, to find Jack spread-eagled on his back next to the playpen, looking very confused, and sobbing piteously. I scooped him up immediately for cuddles. He didn't have any injuries, but he was very traumatized. Took a very long time to get him to stop crying. Took even longer before he stopped insisting on sitting on my lap, watching tv, and grabbing my arms to wrap them back around his torso if I so much as moved one away to scratch my head or use the remote. Very very traumatized wee Zodling. ;_;

This complicates our plans for the trip to Missouri. We were going to use it as his travel bed, both on the road and at the inlaws' place. We can still do that... he has yet to escape his crib, although we've now got beanbag chairs and stuffed animals arranged to cushion his fall if he does... but now we can't leave him in the playpen unsupervised.

Sleeping arrangements are going to be tricky anyway. Steve and Deb, last Dav checked, sleep in the partially converted basement. The four of us are going to be in the old master bedroom, which still has Steph's bed and Aiden's toddler bed. Dav's bff Dave will be on the sofa bed in the living room.

Mark and Jack, for very good reasons, do not and have never shared a bedroom without an adult present. So I'm probably going to have to hang out in the master bedroom with Mark and Jack until they fall asleep every evening. There's not really a good alternate spot for Jack to sleep. Sigh.

We did acquire fish, which I will post about in more detail later. So far they are doing well, but I am kicking myself that we didn't wait til we had firmer news on the housing move. A ten gallon tank with so few fish shouldn't be too hard to move, but it's still a hassle, and a potential risk to the fish. Tetra are touchy.

I am doing entirely too much fannish squeeing over BBC Sherlock. ^_^ Haven't seen a scrap of the show; but RMPBS aired one episode last night, and I DVRed it. Unfortunately this morning I learned on [personal profile] tzikeh's LJ that PBS edited it a lot. Unknown if this was editing of the "Awesome stuff but not actually plot-required" variety, ala Tom Bombadil being excised from LOTR, or "Why are you airing this show if it isn't up to your decency standards/audience's comfort zone?!" ala "What, like the back of a Volkswagon?" from Mallrats. (I forget which cable channel perpetrated the latter, but it irks me every time I think about it. It's not just a recurring gag, it figures in the denouement!)

Not sure, as a result, if I want to watch the DVRed episode or wait til I can buy the show on DVD. We'll see. Hell, I haven't even watched White Collar yet.

Dav is at Ft. Carson all day, attending a workshop on ECHO, EFMP, and special needs law. he called at the lunchbreak to report that he's getting excelent reception from his audio recorder, and they're giving everyone lots of printouts of the information covered. So I should be able to learn all the stuff he's learning with very little trouble.

After that, he's running a number of errands, so I'm not expecting him for dinner. We decided to buy a new laptop, out of the savings, because the old one is on its last legs, and he really needs a dependable one for when he goes TDY, both professionally and so he can keep up woth UMUC classwork. We also decided to buy a new high quality queen-sized air mattress, on sale at Target, for the trip to Missouri. (Anybody want to bet Mark finds a way to break his Aunt Steph's former bed?) And he needs extra bullets. He took his deer rifle to the range on Sunday, to sight in the new scope, and just as he was starting to hit bullseyes.... Something snapped on the scope mount. Thank God it pulled the scope forward, instead of into his eye. o_O He was able to find a new part for it at the local specialty store, and *thinks* he fixed it, and can prevent the problem from happening again. But now he's got to sight in the scope all over again, and if the repair doesn't hold, he's kinda screwed for deer season. It's the kind of rifle that will require a gunsmith if the scope needs a complete new mount assemblage, and there's no way to get that done before Nov. 11th.

Damn it. I want venison to enjoy this coming year. Particularly since our current plans involve skipping next fall's deer season so we can save money for a new car and a vacation sans Zodlings.

I need to figure out what class to take next spring for my paralegal studies. Unfortunately I can't take more than three credits, due to time and finances, and I have no idea which of the required courses needs to be next. My first step needs to be contacting my advisor. I'm probably going to wait until Mark's back at school, which might be as soon as tomorrow. He's in pretty good shape this afternoon, despite his lack of appetite. I hope the Sudafed we give him at dinner helps with the last of the symptoms.

Good thing I remembered the right coding this time.
