Short, for I am fatigue-ed
Aug. 15th, 2010 09:22 pmGot a call from Mark's new teacher at McAulliffe on Friday - finally. Short version, he DOES need a uniform; initial preschool orientation is tomorrow, and we're signed up for the 10 am session; and the bus company is supposed to be contacting me tomorrow or Tuesday.
Nnnngh. Do you have ANY idea how hard it is to find clothing conforming to his school dress code in his size? We managed to find khaki shorts and pants, albeit not the semi-fancy version over in the big kids' clothing section, labeled "Uniforms". (This despite the district website alleging no particular brand is necessary, as long as the basic guidelines are adhered to.) Their smallest size swallows my little moose - and has metal tab-and-hook fasteners instead of a button or snap. Even for a five year old or first grader, that seems like a joint invitation to pants falling down at inopportune moments, or difficulty using the bathroom without teacher assistance. So we went with the toddler 3T and 4T versions, which aren't quite as sharp but fit properly. (WHO in their right minds expects 3 and 4 year olds to adhere to a dresscode?! WHO?! Older kids may obsess over who has cool clothes or designer labels, or wheedle their parents into buying inappropriate attire. But preschool kids?! Seriously?!)
Could not yet find the proper shirts. McAulliffe requires polo shirts, collar absolutely mandatory, in either black, pale blue, or white. All we could find were white and navy. White's not going to last five minutes with my little Zodling.
We'll try WalMart next. I'm not thrilled. Option C is JC Penney's, which will cost a fair bit more I suspect.
Oh, and guess what my little Zodling has learned this weekend?
That he's strong enough to shove his mattress off the box spring, and attempt to bounce on the decidedly not-springy box spring. Davner and I have had to go in there and set things to rights three times in the last half hour. I fully expect it will take crashing through the top of the box spring and getting his foot stuck to teach him this is a bad idea. >_
