The onions' green tops are growing well, but the ones Dav checked on are miniscule. (The seed packet said they'd be edible-size about now).

The beans look ok, but only Rufus the School-project Plant has produced any pods. There's only two, and they are just barely big enough to eat.

The tomato plants look awesome. They're just not producing much.

Granted, this is partly due to Zodling depredations. Mark thinks the green beefsteak tomatoes look like his green rubber bouncy ball, and periodically plucks them off. He hasn't tried eating them, but it's still putting a dent in the plants' output. None of the beefsteaks have gotten big enough to redden, or even gotten bigger than a golfball. There's a few flowers left on one of the beefsteaks, but I suspect it's coming to the end of its productive season. The other two beefsteaks seem to have given up.

The lone cherry tomato bush has so far produced one fairly small reddish tomato. Dav plucked it while it was partially green, to prevent Mark making off with it. It's reddened nicely. I'll taste it today. There's a small cluster of green tomatoes of varying sizes in roughly the same spot. We'll see how they do.

All four bushes overall seem rather smaller than I remember my aunt's tomato bushes getting. I don't know if it's the depth to which we planted them, or what. We water them regularly. Dav bought organic soil. They're in the sunniest part of the yard. I just don't know.

The single row of baby spinach is small, feeble, and not remotely at an edible size. Part of the problem may be that Dav moved them against the wall of the house, along with the onions, in an effort to make the garden patch look prettier and free up walking space on the patio. The wall gets significantly less sun than the spot where the tomatoes are. When we noticed them turning yellow, we moved them back, but I think the damage is irreversible.

Next year, we're putting the containers somewhere zodling proof, or rigging something with chicken wire to keep Mark out. I caught him sitting in one of the tomato containers a little while ago, legs encircling one of the beefsteaks and slightly squashing a marigold. >_<

I hope the yard of the new house we're supposed to be getting assigned will be conducive to that. ::sigh:: It'd be nice to have fresh juicy cherry tomatoes to nom off the vine, and baby spinach that I can harvest and eat directly, instead of buying and risking it getting icky in the fridge.
