Apr. 12th, 2010 11:24 amWe went to Garden of the Gods State Park for the first time this weekend. Managed to get slightly lost along the way; missed the turn Google Maps wanted us to take, and wound up a little ways past Manitou Springs on I24. It was worth it: Manitou Springs is pretty cute, if blatantly tourist-trappy, and the views out on I24 are awe-inspiring. :D
We really need to take the in-laws out there sometime. Lots of beautiful views and natural scenery, and I'm sure
davner and his dad would have a wonderful time hunting in the mountains.
Garden of the Gods was really beautiful too. :D But next time we'll plan better. I left the Zodling Bag in the car, not expecting to need it - and the Zodlings are not yet adept at drinking from water bottles, only from sippy and straw cups. -_- Parking was extremely difficult, and the people jockeying for position in the tiny lots were worse than anybody I ever saw at WI State Fair when I worked there as a teen. Next time we will depart early in the morning, not after lunch. Also, Mark had several brief screaming fits, only one of which was for a readily apparent reason. (Mommy dared to take Jack into the visitor center for a diaper change without me! Outrage! Calumny! Shock!)
We had fun, and got some good photos. ^_^ Will post eventually, along with the Easter photos.
Unfortunately I managed to get stricken with something, possibly sunstroke, late in the evening. I can't imagine how; I wore a hat, slathered on SPF 70 sunblock, and drank plenty of water, both at the Garden and when we got home. All I know is, a mild headache that crept on as the afternoon progressed suddenly morphed into a blinding headache and mild nausea when I was trying to get Mark ready for bed. Poor kiddo was terribly confused when my recital of Goodnight Moon got slower, and slower, and finally petered out. I had to curtail the bedtime ritual, and Dav had to help get Jack in bed.
Took three motrin and went straight to bed myself. This morning I'm feeling mostly better. Only a little lingering light-headedness and a touch of stomach discomfort. Trying to shake it off, as I need to collect Mark's epi pen from the base pharmacy, then drop it off at Mark's new school.
Yes, you read that right. :D Mark can start class at Patrick Henry Elementary as soon as the nurse's office gets his epi pen and paperwork for same. Four days a week, 8 am to 10:45 am. 16 kids, not all of whom have IEPs. One teacher and two aides, plus a third aide part time for meals. Ms. Vigil seems very nice, and Mark behaved beautifully when we visited her class last week. She will also be the teacher on hand for his new IEP evaluation next week, which should help immensely.
School ends May 20th. By then we should finally have Mark in ABA therapy. Dav just emailed me to say we've completed enrollment in ECHO, so now I need to call his doctor and get the referral for ABA therapy resubmitted.
Things are looking up. ^_^
