My attempt to briefly give up soda lasted all of one day. -_- Well, my stomach and chest no longer hurt, and Mark's driving me to distraction. He decided that me changing Jack's diaper was the perfect time to start ripping a page out of the back of his hardcover copy of 'Chicka Chicka Boom Boom'. He loves that book. I have no idea what possessed him.

I am cutting way back on soda, though. I'll just have the one today, and it's decaf.

Interesting link of the AM: http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/01/26/senate.office.break.in/index.html?iref=allsearch

Apparently the male half of last summer's ACORN investigators, along with several accomplices, entered Sen. Landrieu's office under false pretences to meddle with her phone system. Not exactly a sterling bit of journalism, compared with the ACORN tapes.

On the other hand, this part has me curious: "After they entered the building, the two men told a staffer in Landrieu's office they were telephone repairmen, according to the release and Rayes' affidavit. They asked for -- and were granted -- access to the reception desk's phone system.

O'Keefe, who had been waiting in the office before the pair arrived, recorded their actions with a cell phone, said the affidavit by Rayes."

Why would he record their illegal actions? Was he hoping to create another expose, this time of the slack security practices in public offices? (God knows, the way they just strolled in and were able to gain access with fairly basic disguises and lame excuses as to their lack of credentials is worthy of public exposure.) Why did he pick Landrieu, instead of a politician closer to home?

Hmmmm.

I really cannot wait until we sign the lease for the new house and take possession on the 2nd. -_- The TLF is beautifully decorated and well appointed, and much nicer than the leaky near-slum we left in VA. Having only a fraction of our possessions is oddly freeing and zen-like. I can get the basic household chores done in less than an hour, for example. The washer and dryer and even the dishwasher are significantly more efficient.

But I miss having a house of our own, and the attendant stuff that, while occasionally cluttersome, makes life more pleasant. I miss having cable with channels I actually like and a guide function so I can find shows I want more easily. I miss having our desktop computer, with its faster processor and full complement of bookmarks. I miss having all the boys' toys and dvds and books, which make keeping them amused much easier. I miss my manga and books.

I miss the freedom that comes with having one's own house, and not having to worry about incursions from housekeeping and CE. So what if the master bedroom's ceiling fan has a defective wall switch? I don't mind not being able to turn it off without climbing up to pull on the chain. It's not going to electrocute anyone, so why not wait til we check out to replace it? Sigh. I miss being able to install safety latches on doors and cabinets.

Oh yes. So very ready for the new house.

Apparently they were trying to prove that Senator Landrieu's office was refusing phone calls from outraged constituents. Because her phone was frequently busy and people were having trouble getting through to her. Because this has apparently never happened before in the history of politics. And if a Democrat is involved, there must ALWAYS be a plot to...accomplish something with her dastardly busy signal.
