Damn I'm glad that whatever-it-was is gone
Nov. 5th, 2009 10:12 amStill a trifle achy, but mostly fine now. I plan to clean during Jack's afternoon nap. Woot! (Belldandy-iconning this post because who but Bell-chan gets excited about housework? ^_^;; )
At least, I'll be cleaning if I can tear myself away from continued internet analysis of the election. (Yes,
davner, I intend to peruse a variety of sources, not just liberal ones, as is my custom, to obtain a wide range of information.) I can't help it. I'm a low-grade politics nerd. ^_^ S'why I was going to switch to Poli Sci when I gave up on majoring in Engineering, all those years ago.
One thing that's bugging me, and I don't know where to do the research to satisfy my curiosity - New York's 23rd District. A number of media sources allege that it's the first time since 1872 that a Democrat has won that seat, including this NYT op-ed piece. But Dav pointed out, when this came up on the news last night, that it's not true - the Dems held it in the early 90's. (Apologies if I slightly misquoted, honey, I was feeling lousy last night. I'll correct it if I'm wrong.) Wikipedia, while not an iron-clad source, not only corroborates it, but points out that Dems have held the 23rd District several times since 1872 - the longest stretch being from 1923 to 1973.
Can any of my more net-savvy and politically-savvy friends here point me to an explanation of the "Not since 1873!" claim? Better sources than Wiki are deeply appreciated. I just don't know where to look.
