Irritated Fashion Post of the PM
Aug. 24th, 2009 03:13 pmClearly, despite our recent re-acquisition of cable television, I live under a rock. I just now became acquainted with the minor controversy over Michelle Obama wearing shorts in public.
::rubs temples::
It wasn't to break ground on the White House victory garden. (Although that would have made excellent sense.) It wasn't at a soiree for diplomats and their spouses.
It was a family vacation, with her pre-teen children, to Arizona. In August. With temperatures in the low hundreds.
::mild sarcasm:: My land, what is this country coming to?!
Lest I hear any complaints about how it's inappropriate attire for a First Lady on a public outing, allow me to share this link, from MichelleObamaWatch, which includes a photo of the elegant Jackie Kennedy, vacationing with JFK and their very small children. She's in shorts. And a sleeveless shirt, which Ms. Obama has also been chastised for wearing.
Heck, back when the sleeveless nonsense started, I saw links floating about with multiple images of Ms. Kennedy wearing sleeveless shirts and dresses, and at least one of Lady Bird Johnson in a sleeveless dress.
I'm going to go chase my boys around now, and forget that a goodish chunk of the American public appears to have lost their damnfool minds.
