Jun. 10th, 2009 12:28 pmI only have drips and drabs of time for blogging or reading blogs these days. I'm sorry. I will catch up on everything and respond to comments soon.
I just need to vent a little about something yesterday, and then I have errands to run. Won't do a proper update tonight, as I was up doing things until 1 am last night, and need sleep. Probably tomorrow night.
Yesterday I called the office of the PEEP program, the Newport News school system program that assessed Mark for possible developmental delays/needs at school, and which will be doing an Individual Educational Profile that will be used by his teachers next fall (or whenever FL lets him start school). As I mentioned before, Tricare decided to schedule his developmental pediatrician appoint the same day as PEEP scheduled his IEP, without telling me. It's harder to get the developmental pediatrician to reschedule - might be months from now, which we don't have time for - so I chose to move the IEP.
Receptionist on the phone, after my initial request, put me on hold so she could speak to someone else. When she came back, she said "Oh that's ok, ma'am, we can go ahead and hold the IEP without you being there, if you prefer not to attend..."
I refrained from raising my voice or swearing. I simply told her that it wasn't that I didn't wish to be present. I had recently learned that Tricare had made an appointment for Mark with a specialist down in Portsmouth, for the same day as the IEP, without telling me. As it would be very hard to reschedule that appointment, and as I definitely wanted to be present for the IEP, I wanted to reschedule it.
"Ohhhhhh..... I have to talk to the other lady, she handles this...."
On hold again.
Back on the phone, she had an appointment slot for July 8th, 9:30 am. I grabbed it.
Hold the IEP without me or
davner present. If I "prefer not to attend". Make decisions about my son's needs for his beginning school without my input or presence. I do NOT fucking think so.
Who the hell would think I was rescheduling it if I just didn't feel like going? Wouldn't that be a cancellation, instead? Who the hell doesn't want to be present to handle their child's developmental care? Is this seriously a wide-spread issue in this school system? Or was this just a receptionist who was on temp from a different part of the school?
Rrrrrrr.... No way are they making those kinds of decisions about Mark without me or Dav there giving our input and agreeing to the final document.
