So I just got a phone call from the WHC's Patient Advocate, who says she's also one of their nurses.

She told me that the normal standards for blood glucose from a pregnant woman are different from those for non-pregnant women and men. My test back in April was totally normal; I am NOT at risk for gestational diabetes in the least, and I don't need to do the three hour test Monday. Also, if I had needed to do it, I would not have needed the three-day high carb diet; the doctor who put in the order for the test coded it wrong. The lab automatically requires the three day diet for the three-hour test unless the doctor ordering it specifically notes that it is unnecessary. This jives with what I was told by the lab tech who gave me the instructions for the carb diet and reviewed them with me yesterday.

I explained to her that I was just going by what that doctor - whose name I unfortunately cannot correctly recall - had told me Tuesday evening after my non stress test. I told her what time of day he was working, and what he had told me, and complained that he must not be a doctor normally assigned to L&D or the WHC, because he clearly hadn't know about the different standards for the initial test OR the lack of need for the carb diet. She was quite puzzled as well that he had told me this and offered me a possible name when I told her what I thought his name had sounded like. I wasn't sure if that was the right name. She said she'd look into it, and repeated that I do NOT need to do the glucose test Monday. She apologized for the mixup, said she'd look into it, and we ended the call.

My next prenatal appt. is for Thursday, the 26th, again with Dr. Janoffsky. Maybe it's a good thing I'm getting the same doctor consistently now, even if she's not in the "pod" I'm assigned to, and even if there's still no way to guarantee who'll be in charge when I deliver. A little continuity of care might prevent more bullshit like this.

Edit: Got off the phone with Dav: he suggested I double-check with the WHC on those test results, and if need be, I can unleash him on the hospital. I called the WHC. The lady on phone duty was appalled that the dr. up in L&D had told me any such thing, and said she'd have the nurses check my results and get back to me asap.

This is SO my last child.... >_
