Nov. 24th, 2002 11:33 pmWorked at K-Mart again today... this time in the clothing dept instead of the front registers. Not exactly engrossing work, but it kept me busy for five hours, instead of mostly bored like Gilles has done all too frequently of late. I just wish I felt like I knew what I was doing... you're expected to know where everything is, even if it's your first day, if customers ask or the front registers call to try and find out if we have something. I know the rough locations of each department. Precise locations of each type of garment within each section of the various apparel departments will take a few days. ::sigh:: Makes no difference to the customers though, 'Trainee' badge or nor 'Trainee' badge. I'm not sure right now if I really want this to turn full time. I did at first, but that was mostly the urge to get a fulltime job with benefits talking. I don't want to do something that rubs away at my soul like water dropping endlessly on a stone. We'll have to wait and see. For all I know I could do something spectacularly wrong and not have to worry about whether or not I want this full time. ::crooked smile::
My stomach's been bothering me sufficently this weekend that I'm going to bite the bullet, grudgingly, and call my doctor to make an appointment tomorrow. Some things I can get away with indulging my bent for procrastination on... this is increasingly proving to not be one of them. If I don't mention by Tuesday that I've actually done this, somebody please smack me round with a fresh halibut.
Yesterday I went to see Chamber of Secrets with my little sister and favorite little brother. (Yes, I make a distinction as to which little brother is my favorite. :b ) The movie was pretty good. The screenwriters compressed some things in order to shorten the length, but they didn't excise anything truly vital, just things that make the book richer than the movie. I don't think there's a case, outside of The Princess Bride, where the movie can really be better than the book. So that's not really a problem. Dobby was excellently done. The 'Dobby had to iron his hands' scene was more disturbing on the screen than in the book, but that's because my imagination's not just to visualizing something like that properly. (Thank heavens...)
Is it just me, or are there enough problems with certain aspects of the Harry Potter timeline that would give a historian heart failure? Such as a Chamber of Secrets devised by a man who lived a thousand years ago being connected to a modern, if rather dilapidated, indoor plumbing system, complete with doorway that must have been installed by the Chamber's creator himself?
Yeah, yeah... I know. ^_^ Nobody likes a nitpicker except a fellow nitpicker.
Margaret seemed to enjoy it. I'm pretty happy about that; this was her birthday present. Brian enjoyed it, and was reasonably civilized to Margaret. Good trip all around.
I've got about half my Christmas shopping done... unfortunately it's all the _easy_ people... the tricky ones ::coughdavnercough:: are still to come. I need some ideas, or preferably general hints, from certain people, and I don't want to hear any loose talk about 'Oh, you don't have to get me anything, don't worry." That's not the point! The point is I _want_ to get you something, because I like you guys, and lacking any leaps of inspiration, I need suggestions. My brother Andy's like that too... insists it's less fun if he tells us what to get, then wonders why he gets almost nothing, or cards with money, which he feels is even less fun. Hints aren't the same as dictating a precise list of things to get. Hints merely help baffled friends get pointed in the right direction.
Katie-chan's another one that will take some work. She's six, and while I could probably make her day all too easily with some merchandise featuring the evil purple dino or the revolting talking sponge, I'd rather not encourage such abominations. I want to get her something that she'll adore but won't make the rest of the family crazy. ^_^
Now I'm going to go read Penny Arcade and maybe listen to a couple new Cds of mine....
