Yesterday, Mark started walking, really walking, not holding onto anything, for the first time! :D

Started doing it about an hour before [livejournal.com profile] davner came home. Coffee table to entertainment center, twice. (Made it back to the coffee table by crawling.) Then crawled over to the hamper (which shouldn't technically have been downstairs), hoisted himself up, and toddled to the bookcase once. Hit all fours, crawled about a bit. Eventually made his way to the front door, and toddled from there to the entertainment center.

I clapped and squeed and told him what a good boy he was every time. Couldn't get to the camera in time to take photos, though. He plopped down when he saw me reach for it. But he giggled and bounced while standing when I praised him.

We met Dav at the door to boast of his new skill. Dav was very proud, but convinced he wouldn't do it in front of Daddy any time soon, and certainly wouldn't cooperate with Daddy taking video of him walking. He generally doesn't, when he acquires a new skill. But, lo and behold, he started walking in front of Dav a few minutes later. Dav dove for the camera. Mark promptly plopped down. But Dav was patient. He got the camera ready for video, crouched down a few feet away from Mark, and waited. Soon Mark stood up again, wobbly as a recently animated zombie. ^_^ "Come to daddy! Come on, Mark-chan!" Mark started toddling Daddy's way, and we got several minutes of good video. Dav was thrilled.

Yes, Deb, you will be getting a DVD of this in the mail soon, and so will my mom. I'd upload it here, but your dialup won't run the video right.

My baby boy is walking! Eeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!

Ha! I was doomed the moment I agreed to enter the Doscher gene pool. ^_^ Just to show you some of the more entertaining things that transpire within said gene pool, I share this anecdote from when my sil was a teenager trying to convince her fil to let her take a trip to NYC. (Stop me if I've told it before.)

Steve: You don't want to go to New York. It's dangerous. Your uncle got shot there.
Steph: He was robbing a bank!

Worries about what will become of my Doscher-spawn aside, motherhood is a fantastic adventure, and I'm really glad I embarked on it with [livejournal.com profile] davner.

Thanks. :D

Yeah, childproofing is a work in progress. It'd be easier if the people who make such things use double-sided tape that actually works... ::grumble:: Or miniblind cord shorteners that can withstand being used, rather than just sitting there holding the cords up....
