A year ago today...
Sep. 30th, 2007 09:08 pm(Okay, technically it was a year ago tomorrow, but as this took place on a Sunday, it feels more apt to post now.)
Ahem. A year ago today, I was the size of a small car, a "stretchy" 2 cm dilated, going to the bathrooom roughly every hour day and night, and wishing the rambunctious little Doscher-spawn inside me would hurry up and get born already, damn it. ^_^
davner and I had been wanting to see Jet Li's Fearless for a while, and despite my any-second-now status, he persuaded me that we should go see it while we had the chance, because we had no idea when we'd next get to see any movie. He was right. The next time we were able to get to a theater was in December, when we had Gramma Doscher to babysit. Hell, I don't even remember what movie we went to see that day.
But I remember Fearless. ^_^ Damn good movie. Well worth the slight risk of going into labor while in the theater. (Which, as my labor experience turned out, wouldn't have been a big deal - it took five hours from my first real contraction to the point where the maternity ward finally let us come in.) Excellent martial arts. Excellent plot. Excellent, if somewhat depressing, love subplot. Beautiful settings. Talented actors. A candidate for Sethra's Top Ten Best Movies Ever.
I particularly liked that I was able to tell when the Japanese martial artist and his backer switched from speaking Mandarin, as they spoke to all the other characters and amongst themselves when they were in public, to speaking Japanese when they wished to keep their conversation semi-private. ^_^ Yes, I am a nerd. Couldn't have understood what they were saying without the subtitles, but I thought it was really cool that I could tell the difference in sounds.
I'll always remember that night.
Three more days until my little boy turns one. ^_____^
