I'm not suffering from sleep deprivation as much as, say, [livejournal.com profile] nagaina_ryuuoh, but I'm still floating in a mix between zombie-hood and caffiene buzz.

Mark's taken to sleeping until 4 am, then waking up crying, and refusing to be quiet unless Mommy is holding him while rocking and singing. Or at least humming. Mommy's voice can't cope with an hour and a half of constant singing. x_x

He slowly closes his eyes, after what seems an eternity. I dare to hope. I wait a little longer. I wait longer yet, making sure his eyes are firmly shut, not peeping open a slit, then carry him to the crib. I start lowering him.... and as his body straightens out and reaches within six inches of the mattress, his eyes pop open. His little body squirms and almost convulses, and he squalls in fury. I sigh, or swear, raise him back up, smack his bottom lightly, then return to the glider.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat. For an hour, or an hour and a half. Sometimes he eventually sleeps soundly enough to be returned to bed until six. Sometimes I end up leaving him in the crib, despite his squalling, and hide under the covers with [livejournal.com profile] davner for a while.

Sometimes I go back in and rock him a bit longer. Sometimes I stay in the bedroom til his usual wakeup time.

No matter how tiresome he's acting, though, I do not put on my glasses, and I do not take him out of the nursery, until 6 am. He may not have much concept of time, but he'll never learn unless we teach him. He's long since outgrow nighttime feedings, and I'm not about to let him think he can get breakfast early if he screams enough.

I do feel sorry for him. He's most likely teething, although the gums don't appear swollen. (I'm hoping this is the work of the children's Motrin I add to his after-dinner bottle. Every other day, or every two days, I leave the Motrin out, to avoid the possible stomach-damage side effects.) He's also been constipated off and on. (Never longer than two days at a stretch, so I haven't yet called the dr. about it.) So I do sympathize. I just wish he'd spend more mornings like he did today, falling asleep again at 8 am, and staying sound asleep for a little over two hours. I was able to get a blissfully long nap as a result.

The double dose of caffiene soda after naptime helped too. ^_^

Now I'm doing a load of towels, and hoping the portable washer/dryer we just rented from the landlord works as well as I'll need it to when Dav deploys. Dav's used it once. But I'm going to be the sole user for six months, and it needs to be easily handled by a smallish woman.

I miss our old apartment complex in Sarpy Co. sometimes. Laundry room just a few feet away from our front door, and I didn't have to leave the building to get to it.

Edit: Hey, Deb, just now noticed your 'opening bid' in an earlier post where I contemplated a bidding war between you and my mom over Mark. I'm sorry! I wasn't ignoring you, I just didn't look back at that entry after a couple days. I've enabled comment notification now, so next time you reply to one of my posts I'll get an email.

BTW.... offering four lazy cats, two spoiled dogs, and a good quality bowie knife in exchange for the world's cutest grandbaby hardly sounds like fair value. ^_- I've already got a lazy husband (kidding, honey) and a spoiled baby... Throw in some choice cuts from Steve's next deer, and we'll see...

One thing I've found is that babies are fascinated by the sound of whistling. I've whistled many a crying nephew or niece into a calmer state.

There has never been a better use for this icon.

I can't whistle.
