Dear Amara-chan,

Yes, I know Callisto ran away. Yes, I realize you must be at once terribly lonely when the humans leave the house or when we shut ourselves in the bedroom at night, and yet deeply relieved he's never going to bite you on your butt or any of the other evil Callisto-type things he used to do to you. Yes, I know you think the small pink human kitten we brought home a month ago is eating up entirely too much time that should be devoted to Amara-adoration.

I know this is a stressful time for you.

But at the same time - your convenient scapegoat for all the naughty Acts of Kitten is gone. Callisto used to be the Bad One - with good reason. But you used to do bad things too - we just didn't pay as much attention, with all his naughtiness to distract us.

Now it's a different story.

When I find cat poop outside the box - it HAS to be you. You can't skate out of being scolded and having your nose thrust within a centimeter of the poop, if you're not caught in the act. Not anymore. Before, I couldn't be sure which cat did it, so I wouldn't do much more than general Bad Kitty Voice directed at you both as I cleaned up, because I didn't have proof and the culprit had probably forgotten he or she had done it anyway.

Now? You are it, Amara-chan. So knock it off, please. It's gross.

When I find stuff knocked off the top of the gun cabinet? When the garbage can is tipped over? When I hear feline thunderings around the living room at 2 am? Again, has to be you.

In all due justice, you haven't been too terribly naughty since Callisto ran away. But you need to watch your step. The Food Guy's coming back this weekend, and he has a lot less patience for Acts of Kitten than I do.

Love, The Female

Couple weeks ago. ;_;

I wasn't around when it happened. I was upstairs with Mark, and Tom was doing laundry. Callisto ran out while he was going out to the laundry-room down the block. Tom put down the hamper and grabbed him, but he fought his way free, ran off a few feet, and turned his head and stared at Tom. Tom called him, and he zoomed off out of sight. He hasn't been seen since.

Every other time he ran off, he didn't go too far, or for too long. Even the one time he was gone overnight, he came home when it got cold. It's been fairly cold several times since he left, and it's rained several times too. But he hasn't come back. ;_; We're convinced he won't come back on his own.

We've both searched the apartment complex; Tom checked at the local humane society, and I updated his microchip info. We've done all we can, really.

Poor Amara's quite lonely. If he doesn't come back, we're talking about getting a second cat after Tom comes home from his deployment next spring.
