Men and red vests both suck.
Jun. 19th, 2005 04:52 pmI have a new job finally. I would do the Snoopy happy-dance, but it's at K-Mart. My former employer and one-time nemesis. Partly because they wouldn't give me full-time hours and I was foolish enough to work a second job, which ended up bringing my total working hours to 50-60 a week. x_x Partly because it was a somewhat ghetto example of the K-Mart species. Eh, I needed the money.
On the upside, this K-Mart location seems much nicer than the ghetto-Mart I worked at back in WI. They have actual people stationed in almost every department! Wow. And they have two-three cashiers during the day plus two door greeters to check on people's cart contents as they leave. And multiple managers on-duty, at least during peak hours. Back in the day, we were lucky if there were two cashiers upfront, a manager who doubled as a door checker and emergency cashier, and three people floating between every department in the store.
It also looks like a much nicer, cleaner store overall. ^_^ Maybe it won't be so bad to have been sucked back into the tentacles of the Land of Blue Light Specials.
I start tomorrow. I need to go rustle up my red vest and wash it; the hiring manager warned us the red dye tends to 'bleed' onto other garments; and one of the less pleasant things about K-mart since I last worked there is the new dress code. White collared shirts, black pants, and black shoes. No exceptions unless you work in the garden center outside. So, brand-new white shirt and brand-new unwashed red vest? I don't think so. The ever-so trendy red vest is getting washed by itself tonight. Maybe even ironed.
My first paycheck is the 27th. I really will do the Snoopy-dance then. :D
