Furniture manufacturers and sellers are insane.

I'm wandering around online looking for attractive, reasonably priced furniture to fill out our somewhat empty living room as time and money permit.

Almost every place I try has assembly required even when the item in question is priced at several hundred dollars!

Shouldn't we get a little convenience at least, in return for the higher prices? o_o Shouldn't we get a little *quality*? Instead of pieces that have particle board for the sides, top, and bottom, a thin cardboard back that attaches with finishing nails, and a pricetag of 250$?

(Note: I am not trying places like Ethan Allen Furniture and other such "real" furniture stores. Their items don't require assembly, and do offer solid construction, but they're really not in our price range at all. I've already looked there a few weeks ago.)

For that matter, aren't there places that have full-assembled bookcases and so forth for less than a hundred dollars? x_x

My bookcases (assembly required) come from Target, $30 a pop. They're pretty darn good for that price.

::noddle:: Yes, we have a couple of their bookcases. The thing is, we're both a little burnt out on self-assembly. The space-saver shelving unit for the downstairs bathroom in particular springs to mind. ^_^;

I was *hoping* to find a place that sold pre-made bookcases. I was willing to pay a little extra for that convenience. Only a little. If it took a large amount of extra cash for the convenience I'd just wait a few months til the bathroom shelves had faded from Dav's mind and the CD/DVD unit had faded from mine.

But no luck. Oh well. We can live for a while longer with some of the tapes and books in cardboard boxes.

What galls me most is that people are expected to pay 300$ and still build it themselves. (overstock.com) Hmph. Does no-one sell ready-made cheap furniture anymore? Or am I just a fossil at the tender age of 27?
