I've been reading online updates about the war.

Most of it I'm not really qualified to pass judgement on. But why on Earth haven't we captured the state-run tv and radio stations yet? The reports mention that the state-run media are still on the air and exhorting Iraqis to ''Rise up against oppression and tyranny. Draw the swords of righteousness in the face of falsehood.''

::shakes her head:: A stop needs to be put to that. Badly.

I'm downright disgusted by reports that the troops sent on a lightning strike to the New Presidential Compound, 'to show we can move about the capitol at will', were helping themselves to items in the compound such as ashtrays, pillows, gold-painted Arab glassware, etc. We're the U.S. We're supposed to be _above_ looting and pillaging conquered areas.

Maybe that's why we haven't taken the media outlets yet. Our troops are too distracted with finding things to take home to their mothers. ::grumble::

I was going to walk down to the local UNICEF office today. Sunday's paper mentioned they're taking donations for a relief fund for Iraqi children. That's something I'd like to take part in, if they're doing anything more active than just accepting checks. My personal brand of pacifism runs more to doing things to mititgate the effects of war than to running round the downtown Federal Building waving ill-made placards or staging 'die-ins' outside NY tv stations. :b Idiots like those make me half-ashamed to be a liberal.

Ahem. Getting back to the point....

I wanted to see if they needed volunteers for more active, direct, methods of helping collect things for the kids. The local office is just down on Vliet St., not at all far from my house. Unfortunately, this morning it decided to snow. And get cold. Right now it's only 30 degrees F out there. And the plow hasn't come down our street once. A bad sign. We usually get plowed early and often, because of our proximity to the local precinct station.

This means I'm stuck home until time to hop the bus to Gilles' for my shift. Bleah.

Well, at least it means I have a perfect excuse to snuggle in bed with 'Where Is Joe Merchant?'.... ^_^
