Evidently the producers and director of Raiders of the Lost Ark had some really really squicky and revolting initial ideas about the relationship between Marion and Indy. O_o
Personally, I'd always interpreted that scene not as Marion having been literally a child, but as having been 18/19, maaaayyyybe even 20; so technically an adult, but so newly an adult she was as inexperienced as a child, and Indy damn well knew it. The idea of Marion having been 11, regardless of Indy's age, and this making it somehow more interesting to the minds of the men behind the film, is so utterly made of fail I cannot adequately express it.
