sethrak: Lil' Mittens in a sidecar (Sidecar)

Today was Mark's 4th birthday. :D

He had a pretty decent haul for a little guy. Toy bowling set and a giant set of bubbles from Gramma Debbie; and Davner and I got him 24-count box of Playdough jars and a ten gallon fishtank and stand that can hold up to a twenty gallon tank, bought at WalMart.

This afternoon we went to Petsmart to look at fish and get accessories. Mark helped pick out two fake plants, and we chose bright green gravel and a small decoration that looks like a section of bamboo fence, with a tiny (non-moving) deer-scarer and very tiny fake plants attached. Pagodas and tropical beach houses for fish to swim in and around caught our eyes, but were too big for the tank. So was the diver and treasure chest that blew bubbles, alas. Heck, the bigger of the fake plants we bought was very nearly too tall. But Mark doesn't need a big tank. Just something small and easy to take care of, so he can enjoy watching fish.

We're probably going with neon tetras or something similar. Cheap and easy to take care of, and very colorful. ^_^ The tank water needs to condition for a few days, so we won't get the fish til next week. Eventually we'll get a couple more fake plants (on a smaller scale than the existing ones) and an automatic feeder for the trip to Missouri in November. Maybe a section of background picture sheeting to go behind the tank.

Then we went to Burger King, for Mark's very favorite fast food lunch, and came home to play with his toys some more. He had so much fun he fell asleep before dinner, and was in no mood to appreciate the salmon and french fries when we woke him up. ^_^; Poor kiddo. We saved it in the fridge for his lunch tomorrow; I hope he's less grumpy in the morning. Getting him to go to bed was a pain in the neck.

He didn't get a chance to taste (or more likely snub) the cupcakes I made; the frosting wasn't done yet, and he was in too ill a temper to enjoy them.

But I've got two batches of frosting chilling in the fridge, and am going to get up early tomorrow to make two more batches of cupcakes to take to school. I hope the frosting tube works out. I'm sick of making delectable cupcakes that look like crap because my knife-spreading skills are apparently those of Akane Tendo. I'm going to leave one of the school cupcakes unfrosted, and ask the teacher to give it to mark, along with a frosted one. he might be more willing to try an unfrosted one. A couple weeks back he tried stealing another student's birthday cupcake; who knows if he'd have eaten it given the chance. He is really finicky.

No word yet on my grade for the research log. I'm not worried. I submitted it near the end of the submission period. Ms. Vanderscheer probably has a lot more reports to grade. I got confirmation that it was received, which is the most important part.

I'm going to bed. Need to make at least two dozen cupcakes tomorrow. Not sure if time and ambition will allow for making three batches.
