I am never letting my baby bag go unpacked again. Also, this weekend I am establishing a proper bug out bag.
About an hour and a half ago, Security Forces started running around our cul de sac. One of them came banging on my door to inform me there was an emergency evacuation of the entire base housing complex due to a gas leak. I didn't panic, but gathering together the needed diapers, wipes, and baby food, as well as shoving the kids into pants, shoes, and coats, was a total pain in the ass. Having the basic baby bag ready to go would have eased the process considerably.
To avoid a lengthy screed: We evacuated to the base daycare center; an hour later they announced over the intercom that the leak was caused by a contractor over in the new housing construction zone accidentally cutting a line; and we were free to go after being checked by Med. Group.
I need to figure out a good non-perishable Mark-safe food to pack in the bags. ::sigh:: The CDC staff kept trying to urge us to go to the lunchroom and have chicken nuggets.
Me: Thank you, but Mark has allergies. I'd rather wait and see if we're allowed back in Housing within the next hour or so.
Staff: He's allergic to chicken? ::perplexed stare::
Me: No, he's allergic to cow's milk and egg, which are commonly found in chicken nugget coatings.
Staff: Ohhhhhhhh.....! Well, they do have coatings...
Me: Yes, so if the evacuation takes too long, we'll probably call my husband and see about getting food from somewhere else. No offense.
Same song, second verse, every few minutes with a different staff member. Sigh. They did mean well.
But we're all ok, and the evac wasn't too long.
