Nov. 25th, 2008 10:02 amKitty Foreman dealt with grief by cooking every damn thing in the house she could lay her hands on.
I'm dealing by working on aspects of Mark's allergies. I'd clean, but that's harder to do when there's an active toddler who tries to interrupt Mommy for storytime, or being turned upside down repeatedly, and reacts to a turned-on vacuum like a post-Judgement Day human reacts to the cry of "Metal!!!"; as well as an infant who wants constant cuddling. (Oddly, Mark seems to think a turned-off vacuum is a marvelous toy...) Cleaning will have to wait til Dav comes to take him to speech therapy. I'm not going to be able to follow Dav's advice and take a nap while they're gone.
Internet research, on the other hand, lends itself well to the sporadic attention I can give right now.
Head-desk inducing item the first: "The most allergenic proteins in egg white are ovalbumin, ovomucoid, ovotransferrin, and lysozyme. Lysozyme is an unlabeled additive used in cheese preparation." (Bolding mine. Source here: http://www.pccnaturalmarkets.com/health/1065007/ )
Even if/when Zodling V2.0 outgrows his milk allergy, he's unlikely to outgrow the egg allergy. so we're still going to have to watch his dairy intake like a hawk? Gah! I am a Wisconsin native! Trying not to kill my allergic son is going to kill me! ::cue Don Music head-keyboard::
Mildly-cheering item the second: It looks as if we're going to be able to give him certain Subway sammiches, which is extremely useful for roadtrips. Oil and vinegar instead of mayo, of course... and select the right breads... ham rather than roast beef... heck, even their chicken lacks the sort of things Mark's allergic to. We love Subway. Excellent.
Irritating item the third: About the only thing on Wendy's menu that excludes all his allergies seems to be the plain baked potato and the french fries. He won't eat potato that isn't in french fry form, and there's other places (like Burger King) that have safe fries.
More later. I need to get Mark lunch.
