Dr. Raymundo said she feels that's not too bad an overall weight, given his birth weight and early arrival - but his rate of weight gain is much slower than she likes.
She wants me to feed him every three hours, and include a teaspoon of either rice cereal or baby oatmeal every time. I'll need to get special feeder bottles; she said they're widely available. I'm to keep a log of his feedings and diapers for the next two weeks, and try to encourage him to get up to six oz. at every feeding if I can. We go back for another weight check the 12th.
He also has a hint of a heart murmur, and she wants a cardiologist to take a listen. She put in a referral, and I can call in two days to check on it and make the appt.
I'm not terribly worried about the murmur. Two of my brothers had them, and the doctor told Mom they'd outgrow it - which they did. We'll find out when we see the cardiologist.
I asked about the reddish thing under his armpit being bigger. She said that it's normal, and it may even grow bigger, but it should resolve itself before he turns one.
He had all but one of the vaccinations he was due for today. There's a vaccine shortage on that particular one. She gave me directions to the local Board of Health, and said to show them his shot record, and they'd take care of it. (Apparently the Army still does little booklets, instead of the electronic record and printout the AF started doing.)
He didn't get a lump or even a redness at the site of the injections, and he's sleeping peacefully now. I'll give him some baby tylenol when he wakes up.
The trip to the BoH may take place today; they have very set and limited hours. If not, I'll go next week; the info sheet said they're not open on Fridays. I'll definitely hit KMart to find those feeder bottles and get the cereal.
Mark was good while Jack was being weighed and checked in; he kept playing with the musical nursery rhyme book, which he insisted on bringing in the car. But while we were waiting on the doctor, he got terribly bored and cranky. ::sigh:: Not even PBS on the waiting room tv helped. Eventually, while waiting to get that follow-up appt. made, I broke out the soymilk and crackers, and that partially appeased him.
Now for laundry, lunch, and reading stories to toddlers. ^_^
