Jack-jack has had a nasty gastro-intestinal bug since Thursday night. We've made trips to the pediatrician on Friday and yesterday, been assured it's just the local stomach bug that's been zapping the entire Team Pete child population and most of their caregivers, and given some advice on how to help Jack cope til it passes.
Turns out he loathes chicken and stars soup with a passion, but adores Pedialyte. Only my son, folks.
At least he seems to be getting better. Slowly, but better. And at least it isn't a second ear infection. Friday's visit, his doctor was so struck by the orange tinge to his face and particularly nose, she ordered blood work done to check on his liver and other functions. (She tried to convince me to let her nurse get a urine sample with a catheter. I demurred, on the grounds he's tiny, it would hurt like hell, and unless the blood work came back problematic, I saw no reason to put him through it.) Blood work came back yesterday. One of the liver enzyme levels was a tiny bit high. Not enough to make her worry, but enough that she wants to check it again in a month at his well-baby.
Me? I started having chest pains, belching, and retching issues last night shortly after dinner. Not a whole lot of productive retching, but lots of pain and nausea and chills. Couldn't lie down between bouts, as being even slightly horizontal made the pains infinitely worse and brought on a fresh retching attack in short order. That went on from 7 pm til roughly 2 or 3 am. It was ghastly.
To make things worse, Mark woke us up screaming around 3:30 am, just as I was finally getting to sleep. -_- He'd snuck into the bathroom and taken a giant chomp of the bar of handsoap on the sink counter - and discovered it tasted dreadful. Heh. Serves him right. Hopefully this will teach him a lesson.
I started writing this around 7:30 am, and had to stop to get the boys ready for my doctor appointment.
Short version, I have acid reflux disorder, and a prescription for once-daily Prilosec. If it seems to help, Dr. Dudley will give me refills without a new office visit. About the only thing on the list of food triggers that I consume is soda, and I was planning to cut way down on that anyway. I also need to go in this week or next for a baseline cholesterol test, given my age and family history. And I have referrals for a couple specialists I need to see for other issues.
I feel drained and overall terrible, but at least it's not a heart disorder or something worse.
