(no subject)

Jack weighed in at exactly the same as on Monday. ::sigh:: He eats eagerly, and at the proper intervals recommended by the doc.... Where is he putting it all?!

So Dr. Bautista told me to offer him Enfamil Lipil after each breastfeeding session, and bring him in for another weight check Friday. I warned him it'd be afternoon, because Mark's got a dental appt. in the morning. He said that was fine.

I am very unhappy that he isn't thriving on breastmilk like Mark did; but it's better to supplement than for him to not grow properly. ::sigh:: Still need to find that number for the lactation consultants and call; I can't tell if I'm producing enough. Breastfeeding this time feels totally different from last time... And I want to make sure supplementing doesn't screw up my milk supply, if I am producing enough. He needs the immune system boost, even if he's for some odd reason not getting the calories.


(It amuses me that the LJ spellchecker recognizes 'breastfeeding' but not 'breastmilk'.)

Jack, for a change, has been sleeping peacefully in the swing. (As a rule, he bitches and sqawks when put in the swing.) Mark's been taking advantage of this to get in some quality Mommy-time.

About ten minutes ago, Mark (who did not sleep a wink during naptime) climbed up on my lap for huggles, glomping me chest to chest and resting his head on my shoulder. I rocked him and told him what a lovable boy he is, and he snuggled up tighter, playing with my hair. In less than five minutes, he started snoring. I just laid him on the couch and draped a blanket on him. He's still snoring blissfully. Makes me feel all fuzzy, watching my boys nap. ^_^

I on the other hand, cannot nap. Not enough room on the couch for me and Mark, and I can't go upstairs and leave the two of them alone together. Ah well. I fell off the caffeine wagon at lunch, so I can get by a while longer without sleep.

Jack hasn't had formula yet. I warmed up 3 oz. of frozen breastmilk after his last feeding, and offered it to him. He seemed to be eagerly drinking most of it, which made me happy. He tends to only nibble bottles. Then I noticed milk dribbling out the corner of his mouth... also typical of him and bottles. Sigh. Then I noticed my elbow felt damp...

He'd been dribbling milk out the side of his mouth, down his cheek, and across a large swathe of his fuzzy little scalp the whole time. ::face-fault:: I had to give his head a good washing with a baby wipe. He was vocal with his displeasure.

I have no idea how much actually got into his tummy. I'm hoping a lot, since he's sleeping so happily in the (now-turned-off) swing.

Next feeding, he's getting four oz. of formul after he nurses. I hope he likes it. He hasn't actually tasted formula yet, although he got some in his feeding tube in the NICU before my milk came in.

Finally got around to uploading a number of icons I'd acquired - including this too-kawaii-for-words icon my snuggly husband davner found for me. Or did you make it, honey? I can't remember, I'm too tired. There's also some nice Star Wars icons, duly credited, and one made from art by ursulav, but the actual icon was made by someone else. I was careless and didn't add the maker's name to the filename when I saved it, like I try to do.

Jack keeps falling asleep after nursing. Debating if I should pop a bottle in his mouth to see if he can sleep-feed that way as he does on me, or if that might lead to tooth decay issues. I know dentists advise against doing that with bottles or sippys of juice.... I can't recall if that applies to formula too. He doesn't have teeth yet, of course, but the sleep-bottle thing is also supposed to cause trouble with alignment of the teeth before they erupt. I think. Sigh. I'd better sleep, instead, apparently fatigue and the caffeine crash are catching up to me.
