Baby stuff
Jan. 22nd, 2008 08:57 amBelated post on the prenatal checkup back on the 29th.... ::cough:: All went well. We are officially NOT having twins. :p Since my last pregnancy, DoD ponied up for a portable little ultrasound/heartbeat thingy for Langley's WHC, so we were able to get an ultrasound WAY earlier than I'd anticipated, and without having to drive down to Chesapeake. Much too early to determine gender, but it was very very comforting to know I've only got the one fetus wriggling around in there. Head size and general development is within the proper range for my estimated gestational age, so we're still on track for July 25th.
Here's the ultrasound. Zodling 2.0 still looks like a shrimp or sea-monkey here, but by now she/he has probably developed something resembling proper limbs, albeit small ones, and a more human looking head.

Mark's trip to the allergist last week went well. Dr. Morales said the stuff I'm already doing to treat his eczema and avoid his allergies is right on track. She gave me a couple new prescriptions, one for a different ointment, since the Atopiclair samples Dr. Blodt gave me haven't eliminated the outbreaks, and one for a liquid medicine to treat itching if it gets particularly bad. I need to get those to the base pharmacy this week; but first I need to find the damned base directory so I can call and ask *which* base pharmacy to take paper civilian-issued prescriptions to. Sigh. Mark did NOT at all like the blood tests, as expected. I had trouble holding him, so one of the nurses did it for me. It was over quickly, but he didn't quite forgive Mommy until we got home and he got his midmorning milk and juice.
Dr. Morales ordered a barrage of tests for the sample: pets, cow's milk, soy milk (just in case), peanuts, dust, a variety of fish and shellfish (not that I'd give him shellfish at this age anyway), eggs, and I can't remember what all else. I can call their office for the results as early as tomorrow.

I'm due for my next prenatal visit in about three weeks. For the most part, I feel fine. Fatigue, a certain amount of intestinal gas, constipation, and a general feeling of ick, but nothing worse. The gas is starting to wane, and now my heartburn and occasional bouts of reflux are reappearing, right on time. >_< I still think my belly's gotten bigger than it should for this early in the pregnancy. ;p But apparently that's normal for a second pregnancy, and my overall weight gain's been healthy.
I can't believe I'm in my second trimester already. This pregnancy's flying by.
Mark also needs to see Dr. Blodt for a followup sometime soon. I'll wait til we get the allergy test results, so I can have Dr. M send them to Dr. B.
I've switched him from Gerber baby oatmeal to Quaker Oats plain oatmeal, cooked in the microwave. The boy needs more substantial fare than mush. He wasn't too thrilled with the change at first; in part because Mommy made him wait for it to cool before feeding him. Adding a splash of soymilk and several spoonfuls of applesauce seems to improve the taste and speed up the cooling process. I've also started giving his sippy of milk before the oatmeal, to occupy him as it cools. He still gets 4 oz or so of juice after the oatmeal. He's gotten a lot better about finishing the whole bowl since we started it last Wed. It seems to keep his tummy satisfied lonmger than the baby cereal did too. So I'm calling it a success.
I hope the test results are ready tomorrow.
