Aug. 21st, 2006 03:42 pmThere have only been three good things about today.
I managed, with cunning off-label use of Easy Off and a burner cover to protect the heating element, to get rid of 75% of the gunk surrounding the burner we use most. A second application tomorrow will hopefulyl get rid of the remaining 25%, so our stovetop will no longer look quite so ghetto.
I watched a couple of really good shows on the History Channel about Rommel the "Desert Fox" and his gradual disillusionment with Hitler's regime. If I ever feel good enough this week to drive myself anywhere - a prospect that seems unlikely right now, but that's just the pessimism born of (hopefully) short-term pain talking - I plot a trip to the base library to read more about German history. My public high school really only skimmed the surface of any part of WW2 outside of Europe, with the exception of Pearl Harbor and the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Mark has been very wriggly and frolicsome. ^_^ Granted, this added slightly to my physical discomforts. But it reminded me yet again that there's going to be a huge payoff, in less than two months: I'm going to be the mother of a healthy, happy little boy. The thought of this still has the power to fill me with equal parts joy, awe, and anxiety.
Please don't ask about the rest of today.
