The visit went ok. Waiting room was crowded, but the wait wasn't as bad as I'd expected, given the base exercise, and what I was later told was an under-staffing issue. Lots of people on deployments, and the next batch are due to go out in Jan. - before the last batch starts coming back. DOD is clearly not good with scheduling.

Mark's weight, height, and head circumference are all good. The dr. said there's not a lot that you can do about his pet allergies; he initially said we could take him to see the Gramma with all the pets but not let him sleep overnight - until I explained about the upcoming visit and how far away Deb lives. He put in an order at the pharmacy for a liquid anti-allergy med and some more hydrocortisone cream. I didn't pick it up yet because of how he responded to the shots. I will go get it tomorrow. He emphasized that this medicine might not completely keep him from an outbreak, but it would help control the symptoms.

I talked to him about Mark's food allergies. He was dubious about whether Mark has *all* those allergies. He particularly asked if 'the allergist' had said 'celiac disease' when I told him about the wheat allergy. I said we hadn't seen an allergist: I'd gotten a callback from the lab after the blood tests ordered by the pediatrician he saw a few months ago, because of the eczema, and the lab told me a list of food and environment triggers, and sent me on to a nutritionist. He wants Mark to see an allergist, and put in an order for that. I'll probably have to call Tricare's appt. line for that in a day or so.

He didn't like what I told him about Mark semi-choking on the panda puffs. He said it probably wasn't anything serious physically, just a developmental stage Mark's going through, but he was just concerned enough that he wants to check it in more detail. He didn't have time today, because there were too many other people and not enough staff, so he had the woman at the desk make us an appt. for Monday at 2:30. He's not too worried, because Mark's weight and height seem fine. He just wants to be careful.

He wants us to start Mark on a vitamin supplement, and he suggests we try him out on whole milk and see if it causes an outbreak. In general, he doesn't want Mark to be on a super-limited diet any longer than he has to be, and I completely agree. Hence, the allergist.

Then we went down the hall to the immunization clinic for the shots. Had to explain to the tech that no, he had most certainly NOT skipped the shots he was due at 4 and 6 months, he just hadn't gotten them here because we were out of state, and here was the record to prove it. I am very glad I kept careful track of his immunization record.

He was due for five shots. Hep A, Prevnar, MMR, Varicella, and HiB. Mark did NOT like the shots. Ohhhhh, did Mark not like the shots. He screamed the loudest and most pain filled scream I have ever heard. It even beat when he was circumsized. It was so bad I burst into tears as I held him down. ;_; I've never done that before. Felt horrible, yes, but I never cried.

But he's fine now. We cuddled and I sang to him, and we went straight to the car. He fell asleep on the ride home. I swung by Burger King, ate in the parking lot, and then went home. He woke up as I carried him in. He seems a bit out of sorts, but no fever or anything else. He settled in to watch Backyardigans quite contentedly. I'm due to give him more tylenol at 2, along with his next meal.
