Lately, Mark's been much much better about sleeping (mostly) through the night. This was a source of much joy to me and [livejournal.com profile] davner. It didn't even screw up his habit of roughly hour-long morning and afternoon naps. Much, much joy.

But the last couple of nights.... Oy vey, saith the non-Jewish woman.

We suspect he's teething again. (The suspected ninth tooth referred to a while back never showed up.) So that earns a lot of sympathy.

But damn. Last night, he spent most of the second half of the night in the swing, because my throat got sore from humming, and every time he seemed to doze off and I tried to put him in the crib, his eyes would snap open and he'd start bawling again. Also, he was trying to break loose from my lap waaaayyy too vigorously for me to put up with at that time of night. Slept off and on, but never soundly enough for me to try restoring him to the crib. This is unusual. The 'nap machine', as Dav calls it, generally works like a charm.

Me, I sacked out on the sleeping bag we bought Dav for Afghanistan. Did not sleep at all well, between the periodic wakefullness of Mark, which settled down when I poked my head out from the sleeping bag and cooed at him, and the discomfort of the bag. It's remarkably warm, and I would be money that it keeps you toasty up to 20 below zero as Cabela's advertised, but it has no cushioning whatsoever. Probably a side effect of the super-lightweight filling. Sleeping in it was like sleeping on the paper-thin carpet. Gah.

He woke up for good a little after five am. I changed his diaper, retrieved my glasses from our room, and took him downstairs. Settled him in the playpen with a DVD, and hid on the couch til 6:30. This was fine with Mark until approx. 6:15, which he started bawling for no evident reason. Again, gah. Breakfast, thankfully, calmed him down.

Right now, he's sound asleep, and has been for over two hours. Silly boy. ^_^ He's going to be ravenous when he does wake up - he fell asleep before his 10 am feeding. I intend to combine his 10 am and 2 pm feedings into one big meal when he's up. Maybe give him a small bottle sometime this afternoon if he seems hungry.

Later I'm heading out to get some baby tylenol - if I can find some that's just tylenol. I threw out the old bottle of Baby Tylenol Cold after the recent news reports. When I bought it, I couldn't find any plain baby tylenol, but I didn't think it mattered back then. I'd only bought it for the teething pain, and used it sparingly, but I felt it best to be cautious.

Tomorrow is Mark's one year old well baby checkup. Here's hoping all goes well.
