Upon reading my last post, [livejournal.com profile] davner grinned at me crookedly, and remarked that as he recalled, the whole-milk cartons were in fact a lightish red, or dared he say, even pink...

Ok. +1 for the Red vs. Blue reference. But minus at least five, because while I cannot speak to the appearance of the milk offered by the various Southern school districts he attended, I can state unequivocally that the whole milk sold at Milwaukee Public Schools in the '80s was a bright primary red. ;p So my point still stands.

::poings: Got the okay from Dav to make the occasional purchase from his iTunes account. Downloaded Barenaked Ladies' "If I had $1,000,000", and am debating whether I want to download Meredith Brooks' "I'm a Bitch". :D

Sometimes I miss being employed. Not so much the working and dealing with K-Mart's selectively literate customer base. But having my own money to spend as I liked, once I'd paid my share of our household bills, was really nice.

On the other hand, when the time comes for Mark to enter kindergarten, I'm not looking forward to having to go back into the workforce and deal with the aforementioned less-than-delightful customers. Mark's a demanding little thing, but at least I get snuggles and adorable smiles to offset the times when he turns into a Zodling.

::sigh:: There's got to be a way to work part time college classes into my schedule and finish my degree, so that when I do go back to work, I can find something a little less soul-numbing than being a cashier.

Mark's gotten to the point where he can hold onto the playpen's railing with both hands and slowly sidestep around the entire playpen. :D Less adorably, he's also figured out he can grab DVDs from the shelf near his playpen, and toss them into the narrow gap between playpen and wall. I'd move the shelf, since it's not that big, but even as small as it is, there's not really anywhere else we can move it to.

He can let go of the playpen rail with one hand, and slowly pivot and sidestep out until he's standing in the middle of the playpen, holding on with just one hand. He looks so proud when he does that. :D Has yet to try standing without holding on to anything, even momentarily. When he lets go with both hands, it's always to deliberately sit down, or to grab on with both hands to something perpendicular to what he'd previously gripped.

When I'm changing him on the special shelf attached to his playpen, he's able to wriggle about into an all fours or even a sitting up position before I can get the diaper on. >_< He squawks a great deal when I put him back down. For some reason, he never does this when I use the changing table in his room. Maybe because there's no tv to watch in the nursery? Doubtful: he's done this in the living room when the tv's been turned off.

He's also gotten agile enough to pull himself up to standing using the front edge of the glider seat in his nursery. Still flops on his butt when he tries the same trick with the gliding ottoman, for some reason.

Not much else to update on, just at present. I've finally gotten to the backstitching portion of my cross-stitch project. The features of the little Buddha are really starting to jump out. Hopefully the back-stitching will take less time than the cross- and half-stitches did, so I can get it done by the end of the year. It'd be nice to say I'd finally completed one project. Then I can get back to the one [livejournal.com profile] willz gave me for Christmas.... three years ago? ^_^;; It's been sitting half-done on a closet shelf for a long time. Maybe start that one of the cats napping on a bookcase. Or try something for Mark's room...

One of these days I need to re-read and post comments on the latest Fruits Basket volume. And snark a bit about OotP. Saw it a few weeks ago. Well, really, the bulk of my snark can be boiled down to fuming that the Order - the movie's fracking namesake - got less screentime than you'd expect... I realize they have to boil things down a lot to fit it into a movie of reasonable length, but it's getting to the point where said boiling down is going to make it harder and harder for the remaining movies to make any kind of sense, even for the folks who've only seen the movies.

Hell, I'd read most of Deathly Hallows before seeing the movie, and afterwards was left wondering if JKR has had anything at all to do with the scripts. Or if the script writers have read any of HBP or DH. It certainly seems like some of the movie condensation is going to make it all but impossible to retcon in some pretty big plot points that will be needed for the next two movies. (Snape's worst memory, anyone? Bueller?) Maybe I'm being optimistic about what the script writers will consider a coherent movie...
