Heh, I was *wondering* if NYC's government was on crack or if the city had a massive stadium hidden away somewhere that could be converted to Olympic grade that I was ignorant of. T'would appear it is the former: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/07/nyregion/07stadium.html?pagewanted=1&th&emc=th

You'll have to register as a NYTimes online member to read it, but the gist is, NYC was pinning its hopes of the 2012 Olympics on a three-person state board approving the sale of land for a new stadium, and said board gave them a flat "No!".

While it would be neat for NYC to get the games, it seems like the US very, very often... it's good to let other countries have a chance.

My money's on Paris.

It would be neat for NYC to get the games. They could use the extra tourism. I just was amazed when I heard they were in the running, because as far as I knew, they didn't have a stadium close to the size needed to convert to an Olympic grade venue. And NYC is notoriously short on empy space, so I thought building a new one was difficult if not impossible.

My money is also on Paris.
