Short and random
Mar. 15th, 2010 11:11 pmHousehold chores are done, zodlings are tucked in bed, and husband has gone to sleep. \o/ I can relax.
davner appears to have recovered sufficiently from the Mutant Death Crud to return to work tomorrow. No one else seems to have caught it from him, so there is much rejoicing.
We received the short version of the Census form in the mail today. There were no questions of a nature to give conservatives heart palpitations. ^_- I also received two birthday cards from the family. \o/
Still plugging away at unpacking and household organizing. Still working on getting Mark enrolled in school. We're hoping the paperwork will be done soon. He needs the stimulation of school, poor kid.
My huge order from Amazon should be here within a week. \o/ I haven't bought that many books at once in a while, and it's filling my nerdy heart with glee and satisfaction.
On the list:
Nodame Cantible Vol. 1 (I can get D.Greyman easily enough at a brick and mortar store. TvTropes has suckered me into getting me the first of this series, and I didn't want to risk it not being in stock. I need to find more manga series to get into; Fruits Basket and Maison Ikkoku are done, and I can't take any more of W Juliet, I just can't.)
How Doctors Think, by Jerome Goopman (Thank you for the suggestion,
captain_ecchi, I hope it proves useful when I see the optometrist for my hard contact fitting.)
The Milk-Free Kitchen: Living Well Without Dairy Products, by Beth Kidder and Harold M. Friedman, MD (Zodling's allergies.)
Digger Vol. 2, by Ursula Vernon (Eeeeee!)
The Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook: 250 No-Fail Recipes for Pilafs, Risottos, Polenta, Chilis, Soups, Porridges, Puddings and More, from Start to Finish in Your Rice Cooker, by Beth Hensperger and Julie Kaufmann (Need to find more interesting things to do with the small rice cooker we just bought. It's excellent for plain rice - but I want variety.)
Faro's Daughter, by Georgette Heyer (Wish I had had the sense to bookmark the utterly hilarious review of this I found on someone's LJ. Alas, I cannot remember even the username. But it sounded excellent. :D )
Unnatural Death, by Dorthy L. Sayers (I keep coming across people commenting favorably on Ms. Sayers in general and the Peter Whimsy series in particular. This one sounded like as good a starting point as any.)
Marvin K. Mooney, Will You Please Go NOW! by Dr. Seuss, and Zoo Faces: A Book of Masks, by Lucy Schultz and Ana Larranaga (Replacements for favorites of the Zodlings that have suffered irreparable damage.)
I plot buying more when I make the rescheduled shopping trip this weekend. I suspect a large part of the afternoon will be spent in a giddy haze wandering around Barnes and Noble. :D
