Working on a batch of cookies for [livejournal.com profile] davner's next care package - with white chocolate/milk chocolate swirled chips. Mmmmmm.

Jack's been asleep about an hour. A little early for him, but not worrisome.

Mark on the other hand... I don't know if he's catching something, or going through a growth spurt, or what.

Saturday, he fell asleep at a quarter after four in the afternoon.

Jack had gone down for a nap around 3:30 that day, so I turned off the tv, hushed Mark's whining, and took him upstairs for one-on-one playtime. Except, he showed very little interest in his puzzles, or in any of our usual games for upstairs. Eventually, he crawled into his glider, looking cross and drowsy, and sitting bolt upright. I gently rocked the glider, and he nodded off in very short order. I propped a pillow along the seat so he wouldn't tumble out of the glider when gravity won, and slipped downstairs to get meatloaf going.

Jack woke about fifteen minutes after it was in the oven. Right after I'd gotten comfortable in my own bed, of course. ^_^;

So he and I had one-on-one playtime, and I periodically checked on Mark. I really didn't think the nap would last.

He was still out cold, sprawled atop the pillow in the glider seat, by the time dinner was on the table. My meatloaf takes 90 to 120 minutes in the oven, mind you.

And he kept on being out cold every time I checked on him, until finally Jack and I went to bed.

Sometime during oh-dark-hundred hours I half-woke to the faint click of Legos, but as he can't get out of his room without adult help, and wasn't crying or screaming, I went back to sleep.

7:30 am Sunday, I woke and checked on him. He was out cold again, this time behind the glider, next to the heating vent.

Kept checking periodically.

10 am, I found him sprawled facedown next to the changing table, feet under it, and left arm at an odd angle under his chest. My heart nearly stopped - had it not been for the placement of the feet, it looked exactly as if he'd taken a really bad fall from the changing table.

I knelt beside him. His eyes were wide open, but he was kind of staring off into space, and very very quiet. Normally when he sees me in the morning, he bounces up and either wants to pay right then and there, or charges out the door for breakfast. This time he looked like a very lethargic and limp little noodle. I stroked his back. He gripped a lock of my hair. Eventually I coaxed him up. He held my hand as we walked to the stairs - again, a little odd. He never does that until we're actually on the stairs, and never clings to it.

He was really really slow and lethargic going down the stairs. Not his common monkey business of going down a few then back up a few, or rolling around being silly. Just plain listless.

I laid him on a changing pad on the living room floor to put on clean clothes and a fresh diaper. He just... laid there, afterwards. I got breakfast on the table, and came back for him. He was on his stomach again, arm underneath his chest, same listless stare on his face. I had to carry him to the breakfast table. This never happens. Sometimes I have to call him a few times before he'll come running, but carry him?!

Glomped his sippy of soy milk like a lamprey, and didn't stop drinking until it was drained. He seemed marginally better then. Was a bit slow about eating his cheerios, but perked up a tiny bit by the end of breakfast, A glass of juice after I helped him out of the booster seat seemed to perk him even more.

By the time I got lunch ready a few hours later, he seemed totally back to normal.

He seemed mostly fine the rest of Sunday, until bed time. He nearly fell asleep in the tub. I ended the bath quickly and got him in bed.

Tonight, he started acting unusually drowsy at only 7 pm. I went upstairs to get his tub ready a little early - and came back down to find him totally asleep on the couch. I carried him upstairs. he woke a tiny bit while getting fresh diaper and pajamas, but fell back asleep soon after I sat down with him in the glider for our bedtime routine.

I don't know what to make of this. Saturday and Sunday, we didn't go to the playground or anywhere else. He should have been full of energy like he usually is when he can't go out to burn it off. Granted, he slept through snacktime and dinner Saturday, so Sunday morning could be chalked up to low blood sugar. Today, only a brief trip to the playground, because of the chill breeze, and a very short trip to KMart. He only went on the swings, instead of tearing around or going on the slide, so he didn't really get too worn out.

It's odd. My best guess is he's about to do a growth spurt. ::shrug:: Haven't noticed any change in appetite, though.

Right now, I am trying not to steal too many cookies, and rubbing my hands in anticipation. I ordered several books from Amazon over the weekend, and they shipped today. A beautiful guidebook on famous gardens of Kyoto, For Her Own Good: Two Centuries of the Experts' Advice to Women,, and a couple of Mark's favorite books, our current copies of which have gotten too bedraggled to keep.

Not that I need the physical books to tell him the story anymore. If we ever find ourselves in the middle of a Fahrenheit 451 scenario, my niche among the oral historian hobo network will be children's fiction, albeit of a fairly limited selection. "Skit skat skoodle doot, flip flop flee. Everybody running to the coconut tree..." Aiiiggghhhh... Somebody stop me.... ^_^;

Unfortunately, while this talent is useful for entertaining zodlings in checkout lines or waiting rooms, it's no good for teaching Mark socialization skills or how to read. So, new copies it is.

Also ordered a three-pack of Baggu reusable shopping bags. They're more durable than the cheap ones being sold in the big box stores and the commissary, and much cheaper than a lot of the fancy reusable bags out there. And they fold up small and zip in on themselves. This last feature is crucial - I'm not going to use them if I can't easily fit them in my purse or a storage bin in the car and take them with me shopping.

One three pack seemed like the right amount to experiment with. We'll see how it goes.

Ah, joy. Jack's waking up. ^_^ Later.
