I was able to get ahold of Gramma Monday night.

She said when she left the hospital earlier that day, Granpa's eyes were open. :D However, he didn't seem terribly alert or 'with it'. Not surprising; the heart attack might have affected his brain, and he's probably also on a ton of painkillers. He had a "scan of some kind, I don't remember the name dear, an echo-something...."; I suggested an echocardiogram, and she said that sounded about right. It showed no serious damage to his heart from the attack. Aside from that, she was expecting Dad to arrive Tuesday, and just wanted to hear we were praying for her, and asked about the great-grandkids. She seemed a bit in shock, poor woman. I hope Dad can be of some help.

No news since then. I tried calling Mom last night. Katie answered the phone. She said Mom wasn't home, and she had no idea where Mom was or when she'd be home. Knowing Katie, Mom told her, but she forgot. ^_^; What this says about her supervision levels, on the other hand... Well, that's a rant for a private post.

I'm still feeling an odd mixture of numbness and sorrow. I don't quite know what to make of it. It reminds me of the way I felt right after finding out my cousin was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, but then I had my righteous wrath at mom's decision to keep it from me "in case it affected the baby" to distract me. Now, it's just another source of worry.

Thank you, everyone, for the good wishes. Please keep them coming.

Mom called.

Granpa is alert and talking, although the pain medication has him a bit foggy and forgetful. He's alert enough to notice it, and be grumpy about it.

They're not sure when/if he will be going home. Gramma thinks he may need to go to a nursing care facility temporarily, or if not, get some kind of in-home nurse visits. She's not going to be able to stop him from doing yardwork otherwise. She's also worried about how she's going to lift him if he falls or passes out from overdoing.

My youngest brother and dad are up there, helping Gramma out. Brian's got about a week of leave. Mom may be heading back up there later this week.

I'm so glad he's feeling a bit better.
