Had a good day today. Went to Albertson's and target to get some things, then took a cab back home. Seems a trifle silly to get a cab for such a comparatively short distance, but no way could I carry as much stuff as that all the way home. I lack sufficient arms. ^_^
I am now the proud owner of a new watch. And it actually fits reasonably well. Proof that I'm gaining weight - gradually, it's true. For years I've had trouble finding watches that fit. Either they're entirely too big even on the smallest band setting, or when I tighten them, they tend to leave red marks on my skin afterwards, and twist around on my wrist during normal wear so that the watchface is on the wrong part of my wrist more often than not.
I got a decent amount of food, although not as much as I'd originally planned. The watch, a few other items, and the cleaning things I needed at Target came to a higher total than I'd hoped for, so I scaled back a bit on things like ice cream and fish filets and frozen pizza. I get paid this Friday, so I think I'm going to try talking Sgt Fisher into taking me to WalMart with Gabby this weekend. I still have things from Tom's list to obtain, and Walmart's likely to be cheaper than anywhere I can get to by myself. He and Gabrielle need to go to WalMart fairly often themselves, so it shouldn't be too much trouble, I hope.
Got a call from John (aka KnarTheMad) after I got home. We blathered on to each other for a couple hours. ^_^ He's a damn good friend, one of the oldest online friends I have, and pretty much the only one from my first days online that I still keep in touch with. He's trying to talk me into getting StarWars Galaxies and playing it for a while. He's a major Star Wars geek himself, and enjoys the hell out of this game. He also is trying to talk me into getting Knights of the Old Republic, especially since he knows Dav's something of a SW fan too. I might go for one of them after next paycheck. I rather like the universe myself, although I still think most of the novels don't feel like *real* Star Wars, and the games certainly sound like fun. Not much new going on with him, aside from trying to dissuade one of his female friends from her 'threat' to make him an usher in her May wedding. ::amused:: He feels wearing a tux all day and playing flunky for most of it is poor repayment for letting her crash on his couch these past few months when she really needed it. No, she couldn't go stay with her fiance; he and his family are religiously strait-laced enough that the very idea would be out of the question. From hearing John talk about this girl and her fiance, I'm wondering why she's even with the guy, but since I don't personally know either of them I can't really judge. Then there's his usual geeky ramblings about the tabletop games he DMs for, and his progress in making something of his Galaxies Wookie character - he said something about becoming a Jedi.... Is it just me, or does the concept of a Jedi Wookie just seem all wrong somehow? ^_^;
It was good to hear from John again, because I hadn't talked to him in about a month. I'm going to have to get a phone card and keep in touch better. Heck, I need to do the same thing with Aunt Dorothy. She deserves a nice letter of condolence, and a general modest correspondence from me. I really should have done it when Uncle Norm was still alive. ;_; I feel guilty about that.
Didn't go to see Havana Nights like I'd planned; it was getting cold and cloudy and generally less than pleasant by the time I needed to walk to the theater. I may try it tomorrow depending on the weather... Or just go for a nice long rambling walk. ^_^ Pity Walmart's over three miles away according to MapQuest; I might try walking there and get a cab home, just to have a destination. But I'm definitely not in good enough shape to try going that far, even one-way and without any packages.
I also need to give the apartment a good cleaning tomorrow and Monday. I'll have to do touching up during the next couple weeks, but a good thorough job now will save me from having to scurry around like a madwoman the week of Dav's return. I'll do other things too of course. No sense wasting half a four day weekend on housework. ^_^ The kitten in my cross-stitch is starting to look good, and I never did finish Riven.... Also, I stole Myst from my siblings back at Christmas....
