Zodling and other random updates.
Dec. 13th, 2007 01:54 pmMark actually grabbed the sippy cup from me at breakfast this morning and started drinking from it all by himself. No prompting, no urging. No demonstrative arranging of his reluctant hands. No oozing off the couch (feetfirst for a change, thank God) and dramatically flailing on the floor at the cruelty of parents. (That was day two, when I first tried showing him if he'd held his bottle by himself for lo these many months, he could hold the cup too.) Nope. Did it on his own.
Not terribly adeptly as yet: he has a tendency to curl up the fingers of his right hand and hold it against the cup in a loose fist, while his left hand is curved against the cup in a C. Or let his right arm slide up so that it's his wrist or forearm holding the cup in place. I tried rearranging his fingers a few times. He didn't object, but eventually the hand went back to curling up.
Doesn't matter. I'm so proud. :D He drank his 10 am cup on his own too.

My poor zodling seems to be cutting teeth in multiples. Shortly after we got home from Missouri, I discovered pea-sized swollen bumps on his lower gums, roughly where either the canines or first molars should be. In the last few days, they've erupted just enough to risk hurting Mommy when I rub orajel on him.
The tooth I've dubbed #9 had a small gap between it and the nearest incisor. I was a bit concerned; the gap seemed rather big if it was a canine, and everything I'd read said that teeth erupt from the middle front outwards without skipping. As of today, there are two parallel erupted edges peeking from the gums. Ergo, it's a bicuspid. My odd little boy is apparently saving the canine for another time.
This morning, while tickling him and counting his toes, he opened his mouth wide enough for me to get a rare look at his upper gums. He's got two more teeth poking out, at roughly the same spot as the ones on the bottom.
Where are that boy's canines?!

I've already had to take my wedding ring off thanks to pregnancy-swollen fingers. I am Not Amused. Last time I didn't have to remove the ring until my third trimester. Granted, last time my pre-pregnant weight was 130 lb. My pre-pregnant weight this time was 145. (Currently 150. If I had a time machine and could go back to when I first met Dav, my old self would faint from shock. [And possibly malnutrition.]) But still. I had the ring re-sized last spring, when I finally accepted I wasn't going back to my old ring size. It should have taken a *little* longer for this to happen.
Dav agreed to buy me a new chain to wear it around my neck, but it's not at all the same. Sigh. Also, my stomach seems to be getting larger faster than one would expect for my EDD. My husband the comedian is making comments about twins. This is extremely the opposite of funny. My mother was a fraternal twin. They run in her family, she says. In fact, they skip every other generation. Yes, that means exactly what it sounds like. o_o
I am currently crossing my fingers and hoping that my appt on the 28th will confirm one, single, solitary baby heartbeat.

I have two friends who are likely to give birth in the very near future.
nagaina_ryuuoh was orginally set for a c-section on the 19th, but it appears her little boy may decide to join us a little sooner. Hopefully not during the blizzard forecast for this weekend in PA. And my non-LJ friend Colleen, who has been among Dav's best friends since Public Affairs tech school and was my maid of honor, was due the 23rd, but may need to be induced rather sooner because of pre-eclampsia. Please send good thoughts and prayers their way.
