Dear Dark Horse Comics:
You suck.
Specifically, I refer to the layout of your website's comics and books sections.
Recently, I got my husband hooked on the five volumes of Ah! My Goddess manga I bought back in the proverbial day. Alas, I gave up buying the manga very early on, because your format at that time did not have numbered volumes. Nor did it give any real indication, either in the back of the book or in a little blurb at the end of each chapter, as to which volume came next. I got frustrated with trying to read just enough of whatever random volumes my local bookstore had in stock to determine if a given volume was what I needed, without ruining future plot points for myself.
Now, my husband wants to read more, and has requested I determine which order the books come in. Your website indicates you've recently re-released the manga - and even realized that maybe numbering the books is a Good Thing - but the layout! My God! You have the old release mixed up with the new release, and all of them completely out of numerical order.
I am strongly considering adding "stabbling DarkHorse Comics" to my LJ interests.
No love,
Sethra

Date: 2007-07-19 07:45 am (UTC)I had a remarkably similar experience several years ago. Brother Railgun and Seto got me hooked on the Manga, but I ran out of steam on them after Dark Horse either didn't have, couldn't clearly advertise, or otherwise confused/obfuscated/defeated my attempts to procure several of the volumes.
One wonders how many customers they've lost over the years...
