Last week, I ordered volumes 4 through 7 of the Maison Ikkoku manga from Amazon.com, in part because of their nifty four-for-three deal, plus the free shipping that came with my big order. (Also because I can never find the damn things in bookstores... And it was either four manga, for thirty bucks, or cave in to my rampant inner fangirl and buy the complete series on DVD for considerably more...) Squee! Or so I thought.
Turns out "free shipping" means "We take our sweet fracking time sending it to you". They only took the cost from my bank acct. a couple days ago. Grr.
Better still, they ship it via USPS. And it would appear that the recent 2 cent postage increase is certainly not going towards improving speed and efficiency in our government's mail. I just checked out the tracking page:
Shipment date: June 23
Estimated arrival: July 2
Date: Location: Event Details:
June 24 US Carrier notified to pick up package
June 26 CAPITOL HEIGHTS MD US Departure Scan
The hell? Two days just for it to get a departure scan? And about a week to get from Maryland to Newport News, VA?
Grrrr. Anger not the fangirl, for she is violent of temper and prone to slamming your pathetic excuse for a business to all her friends and connections.
Edit, as of 2 pm
Well, the box was on my doorstep when I went to check the mail a few minutes ago. So, bonus points to USPS for performing better than the Amazon tracker led me to believe - but minus half those points for the condition the box arrived in. Slightly squashed, and with opaque white tape marked "Rewrapped - Resealed - In the U.S.P.S." in red capital letters covering the clear tape originally sealing the package. The manga appear to be in perfect condition, but that doesn't make up for damaging what was a sturdy and well-sealed cardboard box.
