(no subject)
Busy weekend.
We've decided to work on getting me into University of Maryland University College, which has online courses, works a lot with active duty members and their spouses, and gives spouses in-state tuition. I'm currently looking at their legal studies program with an eye to becoming a paralegal.
davner is looking into transferring over his GI Bill benefits to me, but in the meantime we're going to pay out of pocket, and I will only be taking one course this fall. Probably one of the lower level courses, like Intro to Writing 101. It depends on how many of my UWM credits transfer over. Dav says they would not take any of the writing courses from his prior colleges, nor allow him to test out of the writing requirement - and he writes for a living. Next spring, I may take two classes. Next fall, Jack will be old enough for pre-school, so I might be able to get as many as three classes in.
I am really excited about this. :D
Unfortunately, enrolling's going to have to wait a few days. The online application requires you to enter how many credits you completed at prior colleges. My ill-fated 'traditional' college career ended back in December of 1999. I have absolutely no idea how many credits I finished. Just that I completed sophomore status, and was academically dropped. Or possibly merely academically suspended. It's been ten years.
I applied to UW-Milwaukee for an unofficial copy of my transcript, and the website says it'll arrive in a couple days. UMUC does not require an official transcript as part of the enrollment process, but does require one before the end of the first semester.

Part of Father's Day was spent in a family outing to the base barbershop. Mark was looking a bit sheepdoggish again, and Jack's home-grown bowl cut has never been very neat around the edges. Also, he responded to short hair in his former favorite hair-twisting spot by finding a new one. He hadn't gotten to the point of plucking himself near bald in the new spot yet, but we didn't want it to get that far. So I swallowed my distaste for losing his baby hair, and we took them in.
Mark freaked out the second we entered the barbershop. He'd been there before, and wanted no part of it. Jack was pretty mellow. He watched Dav get a haircut very solemnly, thumb in mouth, feet occasionally kicking the stroller. Mark was only appeased by singing ring-around-the-rosy. His appeasement ended the second he was lifted into Dav's lap. >_<
That poor barber... I hope Dav tipped her well. Mark fought and kicked and screamed and required all three adults to restrain him. She did a great job, and kept at it more diligently than the last barber we took Mark to.... But there's still a couple places, particularly one above his left eye, where you can tell the buzzer slipped and his hair is very crooked.
When she was done, I took Mark outside to calm down, and it was Jack's turn.
Mark calmed down almost as soon as we hit the BX hallway. -_- Little goon. He ran around in circles and climbed on the carousel horses, but was an angel by comparison with the way he'd been in the barbershop.
Jack.... was totally silent, as far as I could tell. Not a single scream came from the doorway of the barbershop. When he and Davner came back out, he was all smiles, and had a lollipop firmly in his mouth. Sticky drool was all over his face and running down his shirt. ^_^; Dav said he'd whimpered from time to time, esp. if the comb flicked his ear, but held still, and only required his head to be held steady a little bit.
His baby hair is gone, and I am sad, but he looks so damn adorable. :D It's like kitten fur, now. And he can't get a grip to twist his hair, so he's all but stopped trying.
Poor Dav, after getting kicked and punched so much by Mark, then getting sticky-drooled-on by Jack, dropped us off at home and went to go hide at a sporting goods store for a bit. ^_^; He brought home an ice cream cake. :D

Later today we're getting Jack's hearing tested at Fort Carson's hospital. If the tests come back normal we'll ask his doctor about other avenues to pursue in finding out why he's not talking yet.

Totally random and frivolous aside, the animated bunny mood theme on Dreamwidth is possibly even more adorable than my beloved chibi purple kittens on LJ. The 'busy' icon has wee bunny ears peeping from behind a monitor, while a printer runs and a cpu has little wavy action lines on each side. Eeee!
Also, the DW spellchecker does not recognize 'Dreamwidth'. Or 'Livejournal'. O_o I wounder if LJ's spellchecker doesn't recognize 'Livejournal'...
