My doctor says I have a nasty ear infection and a swollen lymph node, both on the left side. I'm on antibiotics and naproxen for a few days, and afrin nasal spray for no more than three. He says the spray will help loosen anything clogging my eustachian tube, which he thinks is an underlying cause of my problems, but overuse of Afrin can lead to dependency and increase susceptibility to ear infections.
He also thinks that my long-running issues are not caused by having had a misdiagnosed ear infection for the past year, but by something being wrong with my eustachian tubes. So if and when the symptoms come back, I'm to see my regular doctor and have her refer me to another ENT.
That was the best part of a fairly rotten day. When we tested the new water heater, it spewed murky water through the hot taps in every faucet. It took quite a few hours of running the hot tap in the tub to clean most of it out. I still need to run the wash machine and dishwasher on empty to make sure their pipes aren't carrying any crud.
It's amazing how fast the trappings of civilization can break down if a single appliance malfunctions. >_< I can perfectly understand why hygiene was so sketchy before the invention of reliable hot running water.
This weekend promises to be much better. The weather's going to be gorgeous, and we're planning to take the boys to Memorial Park, where Dav did the Autism Walk.
Hopefully this time he won't get assaulted by a Canada goose. ^_-
